W123 Inner drive shaft boot (and what its filled with)?

Hi All - I thought i had a rear differential leak as i started to see some fluid on the floor at the back of the car (only a few drops) but it turned out to be a split in the boot covering the inner part of the rear drive shaft. I was a little perplexed as i thought it may have been packed with...

2009 CLK - LED lights AND disabling turning lights

Hi - i have a 2009 CLK280 with the AMG Sport pack fitted. I recently changed the side lights with LED bulbs (To tie in better with the Xenons). However i have noticed the following issues: If i have left my lights set to auto and start my car in an enviroment where the lights come on before the...

    M272 ballancer shaft issue.

Hi - I have a 2009 registered CLK280 Sport. However, the car was built in July 2008. And I am wondering if it might be subject to the issues earlier M272 engine cars can suffer from. My engine number is: 272940 31 031885 I have read that engines over 2729..30 468993 are safe? Based on the...

    M104 -Broken Valve??

So, the situation goes from bad to worse - Garage said car had 95% compression from leak down test, then i have to wait a week to get the car back - I am still trying to find out why. Went there to Kick off, and notice my car has most of the front plastic under tray hanging down - Do they need...

    M104 -Broken Valve??

Ok, so had a leak down test performed on the car and the results were apparently good - 95% on all cylinders. Garage said that (bearing in mind the car had sat overnight without being started) when they pulled plug 4 out, it was wet with fuel... They said they think it might be a fuel...

    M104 -Broken Valve??

Thanks chaps - the auto parts store local to me, sells a compression tester for $50 (I'm currently living in Ausralia). So from what i can gather i need to remove the plugs and disable the fuel and ignition system before cranking the engine? On the M104 what is the best way to disable those...

    M104 -Broken Valve??

Hi - I have had a misfire on my Mercedes S280 (M104.944) that i have struggled to resolve. Changed the plugs, leads, bought a new coil and swapped them around.... But its still there. When i changed the plugs i found the front 3 were dirty and the rear 3 were wet. I also had someone think it...

M104 Bad earth? effecting cylinders 3 and 4...

Had a missfire develop out of the nowhere on my 1996 S280. It seemed to move around (sometimes cylinders 1 and 6, sometimes 3 and 4 etc).... but now seems to be constant on cylinders 3 and 4. A friend had a look and traced to fault to the connection (poor earth/permanent live) to the plug...

    M104 Misfire (1996 Mercedes S280)

Ok, so the new (aftermarket) leads arrived today - the two shorter leads were to short, but i used the long one to swap them all over one by one - Nothing changed. I removed the plugs - It wasnt great! When i removed the previous plugs (have no idea how long they were in the car for) they all...

    M104 Misfire (1996 Mercedes S280)

I always felt my car had a slight misfire (barely detectable, to the point that i thought i was imagining it) Today though, after a 15mile motorway journey i pulled to a stop, the revs dropped and the car has had a very notable missfire since. I changed the plugs 3 months ago, so (currently i...

722.3 gearbox filter kit - will it fit a 722.419?

Trying to get my 1996 S280 gearbox serviced (I am in South Australia) The local garage, that lots and lots of people here, recommend i use tell me that the parts book only lists a 722.3 service kit for my car. My build sticker says that my gearbox is a 722.419......... will the 722.3 kit fit...

What is it with the 3 pointed star??

To take this on a bit of a tangent - What would be your favorite Mercedes Benz Era? For example - If i won the lottery today, I'm not sure there is anything that Mercedes produce, that i would buy (maybe a SL500 - Not an AMG SL63).... If i was wealthy enough (and old enough) in early 1989 i...

What is it with the 3 pointed star??

I have to admit, that i am a Jaguar man... I have had 9 Jaguar XJ's over the years. But there is something about an (old) Mercedes that is equally special, maybe not quite so charming, but definitely special. I have owned 4x Carat Duchatelet W124's (including a coupe) and bought my wife an...

    My W140 S280 - Recent Purchase

De-badge would have been my first option, but i dont think i will be able to get the paint nice enough if i remove the badge - I think the 'S' has been glued on!! If they come off clean enough and the paint is fine, then i wont put the S280 badge on.

    My W140 S280 - Recent Purchase

Yeah, i have no idea why someone would put an S320 badge on the car.... I have an S280 badge on order. In an ideal world i would have removed the wheels but the driveway is on an incline and i don't have a trolley jack or anything like that over here. The finish is spot on though....

    My W140 S280 - Recent Purchase

Here is my S280.... I bought the car just over a week ago, after deliberating for a couple of weeks. But after checking the AC over 2 visits, spaced 10 days apart, thoroughly checking that everything electrical worked, checking the motor for overheating and Head gasket issues and all the other...
