A standard bolt will only locate through the centre of the bush, allowing no adjustment. Mercedes have some special slotted bolts available to allow some adjustment. If the cross strut is replaced it is recommended an alignment check is carried out.

You've probably done it some good. Its the only time the handbrake shoes get to de-rust the drum. Its actually recommended by some manufacturers to occasionally apply the handbrake like this for that reason. Mind you it is a bit scarey when the display goes red.

June 04 is approximately the facelift point on the CLK. They changed over to MOST so Comand DVD was available, Upper switch panel changed to square shaped switches on the inside aswell.

I had a similar problem on my W209 and found it to be the contacts from the battery holder to the circuit board needed cleaning slightly and a slight bend to increase contact pressure. Also the battery contact required a slight clean. Maybe worth a check

Yes thats exactly what I want to avoid. So i will only attempt it with suitable tools. If I get to a stage where i am stuck, I will put it back together and use a reputable indy Merc specialist.
