After market brake disks - wise/unwise?

I think what you have on the car are 2 piece discs, (floating), that are specific to the SL65 and hence the price. should be easy to check The discs you see coming back on search engines are probably one piece and hence 'cheap' I saw this with my E63 which also has floating discs, and yet there...

    Classic car originality

I think it varies a lot. I also have an 1970's Aston V8 and in the Aston world, engine mods and upgrades are quite common, most DB5's when undergoing restoration have the engine upgraded to 4.2l with electronic ignition and suspension and brake upgrades. It seems that its limited to 'non-visual'...

I get 16-18mpg commuting in my 6.2 E63. Highly dependent on the traffic. Maybe 22 on a long run. Its still well worth it though :thumb:

W211 E63 front discs and pads

They are two piece 'floating' discs. These are apparently better in that they allow the friction ring to expand and contract whilst not affecting the center section. This prevents disc warping and provides better centering No one makes reproductions (at least this side of the atlantic)...

Can someone explain how a BBK is cheaper than a set of OEM discs

I did the front brakes on my E63 this year. All in it cost me around 1600 and I fitted them myself. There appear to be aftermarket options in the US, but not in the UK, (yet), so you're stuck with OEM. I guess the very small volume doesn't make them attractive to copy. Its easy to check if they...

    C63 Servicing

Just had my E63 serviced at MB Aberdeen (now Arnold Clark). Was a C service, at 46k miles. Provided my own oil, and had alreday changed the air and cabin filters myself (I knew they were due). Cost was £301, only slightly more than the wife's Lexus!

W211 E63 front discs and pads

Yeah, I thought that too, but then got a call saying it doesn't apply to special orders or something. Basically its an OEM item they buy from mercedes so they get a minimal discount, I mean it comes in the mercedes box and everything.

W211 E63 front discs and pads

Gooldie, I did my front discs last year, and I'm afraid you won;t get the discount from Eurocarparts as they are special order and they won't apply it. I looked quite heavily into what the options are including shipping them from the states, but as has been pointed out, the shipping is...

    ML320 ABS fault

ABS lights are a Common fault. Worth doing some digging before shelling out big bucks. My repair cost for my wife's ML 270 was 6 quid after a 1200 pound quote from the local stealer http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/parts-maintenance-servicing/141995-ml270-cdi-w163-abs-lights.html
