    S124 tailgate wiring

Hi All, Our heavily used, occasionally abused, '95 300D estate seems to have a wiring harness problem on the tailgate - I noticed that the number plate lights were just on when I closed the tailgate last night when all lights were off, going off again once the hatch was closed fully. I guess...

    450SLC 5.0 - power steering

Thanks for the above - I've ordered one to arrive today; another job for the weekend. Next will be overhaul of the WUR and perhaps distributer / injector replacement... Interesting project all together!

    450SLC 5.0 - power steering

Hi all, thanks for the messages - indeed, she's the 5.0 ally engine; pre-curser to that in my 500E that served well for 12 years and 150k miles....! We were away for Christmas - here's the couple of photos of the replacement belt and obvious problem with the tensioner...! Thanks Grober for the...

    450SLC 5.0 - power steering

Car is with auto A/C - I replaced the belt for that along with the tensioner pulley as it was a bit 'wobbly'. A/C is another project - there's not enough gas in the system currently to allow the compressor to engage to see if it's working or not... It's really shocking how the car has been...

    450SLC 5.0 - power steering

Hi Mioba, See enclosed photo - belt fitted was directly ordered from code of the previous one that was oil-contaminated. You can see there's no way to adjust up the tension currently as the belt is too short to allow engagement of the 'rack and pinion' on the frame. I can remove the one I put on...

    450SLC 5.0 - power steering

Thanks to all above - fuel system seems OK now and I turned up an insert for the PAS pump body with a small spacer to allow use of the original (new) pipe. Seems OK for now - prepared to go for a recon pump if required I guess - German Spob seem to have them available.... Got the engine running...

    450SLC 5.0 - power steering

It's indeed a French car - and we've had the dreaded E-petrol for some time now however, I've replaced all flexi pipes in the fuel system with OEM parts where available and from Pelican Parts, the fuel supply flexi to the fuel distributer - NLA from MB. Interestingly, the new OEM pipe from the...

    450SLC 5.0 - power steering

Quite scarily bad condition fuel hoses on the tank suction / pump / accumulator - I would strongly suggest changing all these on any cars from this vintage. All bits available from MB for now, except the fuel pump itself.

    450SLC 5.0 - power steering

Thanks - we're a bit out in the country here but will probably end up doing that in the end.... I have a new hose on order from the SL Shop, should be here this week.

    450SLC 5.0 - power steering

Good morning all, I have been given a 450SLC 5.0 by a family friend to do some recommissioning work on - fuel system, brakes etc - and I've a rebuild kit for the PAS pump, which has been leaking quite badly over the front of the engine. I'm going to replace the HP hose to the steering box; I...

    IR security system

So, I found that not only are W124 electronic IR key fobs no longer available through the dealerships, neither are the emergency keys themselves from the VIN. We lost one of the pair we've had for the last 10 years over Christmas and have managed to get an emergency key cut via the SL Shop using...

    W124 estate water ingress

Thanks anyway - I think I'm going to do a bit of cutting and weld a new strip on at some point rather than replace the whole thing, it looks not too bad a job to make an insert. Bon weekend all, Paul

    W124 estate water ingress

Hi Graeme, Thanks for the picture link - so would you say the seal channel is part of part 5 or part 8? I can't seem to find a decent photo of a new part on the internet from the required angle to have a look... It looks like it would be easier perhaps just to cut away the top lip and form and...

    W124 estate water ingress

So, after a particularly busy Christmas, I took an afternoon to relax and search for a water leak on my '95 124 estate. I have already replaced the side window seals (with added Arbomast along the bottom of the seal!) and the rubber seal for the tailgate but I was still getting dampness in the...

    Oil leak

Hi all, I have been looking for an oil leak at the front of my E300D engine for some time but it's not bad so left it for a while before having another go last night. The fuel pump sump plate is dry, the cam chain tensioner is dry, I changed the sump gasket last year and used Hylomar blue as an...

    Estate side window seal replacement

So, completed the works this last weekend - I couldn't find any info on the additional rubber strips so progressed best poss with the originals. On removal, there was some corrosion in the lower guttering which I ground out, wire brushed and treated with rust converter, filled, sanded, primered...

    Estate side window seal replacement

Hi Bruce, Thanks for the answer - will check with a friend up in the UK on this and get back to you if they're as bewildered as my local agent here....! Paul

    Estate side window seal replacement

Hi all, I'm going to replace the seals on my W124 estate side windows this next week or so - I have the seals in hand and am just waiting for a suitable moment to attack it... The agent also provided me with a second set of small seal strips (for about a Euro each) that I can't find reference...

    W124 oil pressure sensor

So, I replaced my oil pressure sensor due to the reading starting to become erratic and I thought all was well however, this morning on the way to work, back to its old tricks... Before I replaced the item, I checked the cable to the sensor for damaged insulation and it felt OK however, perhaps...
