Don't have the gearbox serviced untill you get the car checked with the star or another code reader because if the electric plate on the valve body needs replaced then the oil should be changed at this point anyway just make sure that they replace the oil filter if they are doing this repair cheers

sounds as if the transmission is slipping i see you are in scotland take the car to Mackie automatic transmissions glasgow they will check it for you & let you know what is wrong they will check it for free just ask for Alan they open on the 3rd Jan hope this helps

To change the oil remove the sump pan 6x 30 torx headed bolts & replace the filter inside & refit the dipstick you will need to buy one from merc or maybe ebay when checking the oil level on the transmission the engine must be running if you require anymore info let me know.

Replace the electrical plug on the transmission its held in with a 7mm bolt & check your oil level the oil is coming out the plug & going up the loom & into the TCU the noise could be the pump because the transmission is very low on oil
