    Brake Pad Question

I agree, in fact is good practice to bed new discs in with old pads, when i bought my C230 it had had new pads and discs all round and then stood for 9 months, the garage tried to clean them up by using them but it left me with brake judder so the supplied new front pads and discs for me to...

    clk ATF CHANGE

3.5ltrs if you remove the sump, best to re-assemble run and drain and refill a couple of times to get as much new fluid in as possible, you can get around 2.5ltrs on draining, so look on 9ltrs, also bank on extra costs if the sump pan clamps are corroded to the bolts as at least one probably...

    Bad Fuel Consumption

How many miles are you doing? what kind of driving? is the the "old" type 230k engine like mine? if so £10 will get you about 45-50 miles maybe 60-70 on a long run (steadyish driving). I was looking at the instant fuel consumption computer on the jag the other day whilst in stop start traffic...

    Anyone Tried RainX Rain Repellent

i tried this stuff a few years ago, to be honest if you have a good, undamaged screen and good wipers you wouldn't really find you need it, but if your screen is damaged by thousands of tiny chips you will probably have trouble keeping the screen clear, as i did, the rainx filled all the little...

    Bonnet Release-Urgent help required

the garage have had my van for two days trying to get the bonnet up! last i heard they'd sent it to the bodyshop?

    scrubbing front tyres.

Well mine wears the outside edges, but mostly on the n/s, which i put down to lots of roundabouts and road camber, all this is very interesting but i would like to know if any one else actually experiences feeling the tyres scrub across certain surfaces at certain slow speeds, i did also notice...

    C250 (1998) TD Not Starting

Take the filter off and fill that with fuel, the sooner it fills the better, cranking with no fuel can damage some pumps!

    scrubbing front tyres.

Correct, the bigger the castor the more dramatic effect it has when you turn the wheel, if you want to visualize this then of a chopper style motorcycle with long forks and a large castor angle (ie the angle between the forks and an imaginary vertical drawn up through the centre of the wheel...

W203 Bushes, ball joint, tracking rods at 55k

My 202 has 159000 and there is no evidence that any suspension components have been replaced, the only thing in the records is a steering damper. i find it quite disconcerting that it would be normal to replace ball joints and bushes at these low mileages, are these poor quality parts? i would...

    scrubbing front tyres.

Some very interesting comments all round, the castor on the C class is just under 5 degrees, so not quite so severe as some older larger models, which are around 10 degrees. does anyone else experience similar on their C class or should i be looking for a fault?

    scrubbing front tyres.

this happens loaded or not, it' not the wear that bothers me it's the scrubbing of the tyre as if the ackerman angle is all wrong, this is very noticable in multi storie car parks with constant squealing as you turn sharply, in our local multi, now it's wet and slipery you can feel the outside...

    scrubbing front tyres.

Yeah, i'm not too worried about it, my old porsche did the same, and, as the Merc, had a very tight turning circle which obviously makes matters worse.

    scrubbing front tyres.

Hi, hope you all had a merry Christmas, we're just back from a trip to the outlaws over in Holland, again the Mercedes C230K did a good job of hauling far too much "stuff" across complete with full roof box. One thing i have always noticed with the car is a tendency to scrub the outside tyre on...

C270 CDI revving high in a gear

Sometimes when a new component is fitted it takes some time before the gearbox adapts itself (ie learns the new characteristics of the engine, with the new compnent fitted) i doubt it is a mechanical fault in the box as the changes are occuring and the shift points are controlled electronicly...

    Autobox W/S setting.

I use the W setting a fair bit, for the smoother take off and better traction, and to be honest the 230K engine is very torquey and is probably better suited to the early upshifts and less frequent downshifts. As for fuel consumption, i don't know, in theory it should be better. As i'm off to...

    Water pump for W202

I believe that the part number ending in 5 is a genuine part, eurocarparts give a description of the part numbering system, and i woul hazard a guess that the bosch is the heater pump (electric).

how long for the engine to get hot? E320CDi

Excellent point, i would like to add, if you blank part of your rad off, you are very likely to forget, only remembering on a very hot day with A/C on, hot gear box oil, no heater etc. so i would not recommend it for that reason alone (and of course it won't shorten warm up time)

how long for the engine to get hot? E320CDi

This is completely the wrong thing to do, the thermostat regulates flow through the rad so blanking off will have no effect on warm up time. Big diesels tend to take a long time to warm up for various reasons, one being less wasted energy turned to heat, also in the winter the heater is taking...

    Speed Limiter in a W202?

The temporary limit is reset each time you restart, or if you switch it off! or if you use kickdown, the permanent limiter reset is explained in the drivers handbook.

    M104 2.8 Engine - head condition

I recently took the head off my Jaguar, 175000 miles and this also looked in mint condition, no wear, no carbon deposits, even the valve clearances were all ok, frequent oil changes are the key here, coupled of course with a well engineered engine kept in tune.
