Solved! For anyone who stumbles upon this old thread the problem was eventually narrowed down to a faulty microphone in the overhead lighting console. This mic monitors the ambient SPL and regulates the audio volume on the Comand head unit accordingly. My dealer had never heard of this mic...

Thanks, it is the fogs and any other mounting parts I really need the numbers for (already have the front grilles). Think I can suss out the rear grille number OK now.

amg sl 230 mods I too am doing the exact same thing to my R230. Had the AMG front bumper mounted but did not realise I have to change the fogs, as a result they are sunk too far into the grilles and wrong shape. Please can someone supply me with the part numbers for the correct AMG front...

Maybe it is disabled when topless..? One thing I do remember once, the volume shot up when the sun visor closed with a loud snap but I was unable to repeat this effect with any reliability. This may be some kind of a clue..

I think this seems to make more sense to me as if it was just speed pulse surely my nav would also be misbehaving. Assuming the SL uses this method like the S does, anyone know where the microphone and processor is?

Yes, I agree I think it is the auto volume but there are no menus to adjust this. It is not a speaker problem and it is as if somone is quickly fading the level up and down when it happens. I think it may be either the Comand auto volume circuit or the sensor? Anyone know how this auto...

Thanks for the reply. When I enter those numbers into http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk/ I do not get any hits. They have what is referrerd to as 'Rear Lights BIC' Part B66020951. Any idea if this is the same thing?
