    Experian Vs HPI

Why not take out your own check on HPI and see if it's any different?

    Help C200 sport

Check for head gasket problems at that mileage. I'd also look very carefully for rust - wheel arches, top of the doors under the rubber seals and on the boot lid.

    Another what mercedes?

124's are a bargain in my opinion, as the SECs, a fantastic car and spectacularly expensive new. £6k will get you an excellent example of either, in fact I'd be surprised if you had to go over £5k.

    Experian Vs HPI

There are a number of companies that do HPI/vehicle checks but my guess is that they all access the same databases.

    Accident witness.

That's a good point. So that's at least two offences for the taxi - failing to observe the stationary car in front and failing to observe and stop for the pedestrian waiting to cross. He hasn't got a hope with the insurance claim and will be lucky to escape a conviction.

Aha. Am familiar with the expression but not the abbreviation. I kind of like mine, though. :D

    Accident witness.

The brake lights are a red herring. While it is an offence to drive a car without operative brake lights, it is not one to be stationary with the brake lights off. To show how ludicrous the argument is, try it on an accident involving a parked and unoccupied car! I interpret the taxi...

Why don't bodyshops use rust inhibitor?

Well, my kettle is almost spherical and that's made out of stainless steel so it can't be that difficult. Let's face it, mild steel is a crap material. It rusts as soon as it's shown any oxygen. I can understand its use in cheap cars that aren't going to last longer than 10 years anyway...

    A W210 with no rust!!!!

Never mind the description, take a look! Personally I wouldn't be too impressed with a car that's been serviced only once in five years. And with the kind of mileage quoted I'd also be expecting it to be clocked.

    retrofit Aircon on a W202?

Why not just buy a C250TD with a/c in the first place? Not exactly a rare option.

    2003 W203 '03 plate C270 Avantgarde SE, 49k miles for £14650

No need to guess about residuals - just check today's prices for 8 year old C classes and that will be your top end figure given that used car depreciation is on an upward curve. And I think you'd struggle to find one worth anything like 7-8k. In fact I'm surprised that a 2002 C180 is as much...

    Motorway lane discipline

I think in this instance I would open the sunroof, load the RPG and fire, taking care to avoid the debris on passing.

    Motorway lane discipline

Except that passing on the left is not strictly illegal as far as I understand it. The offence would be driving without due care and attention or dangerous driving. And I fail to see how a driver of a vehicle travelling at a constant legal speed in the left hand lane could be considered as...

    Motorway lane discipline

So essentially undertaking is not illegal, but if there's an accident a driver of a car making such a manoevre may be judged to be driving dangerously. Well, I think I'll continue to drive on the left regardless of the speed of vehicles in the lane to the right. Caravans should be outlawed. :D

    Motorway lane discipline

Once again driving on the M1 at the weekend I found myself on the inside lane drifting past people in the middle lane who showed no inclination to move over. I'm wondering how the law applies in this instance. Clearly, if you're travelling in the outside lane and use the middle lane to...

Why don't bodyshops use rust inhibitor?

Can someone explain why cars aren't made from stainless steel? Because I can't think of any reason except the car makers would kill their future market.
