    W123 No Indicators

Thanks chaps, tried both and nothing. Thinking about what might have caused it, I closed both front electric windows together, and probably kept the drivers switch down for a second or so longer than I should have done. I've got a relay on its way, but I really need it fixed! I had the...

    W123 No Indicators

Morning All, Basically my indicators and hazards have packed up. The fuse is ok, I've swapped the hazard switch, and has been suggested to me it could be the relay in front of the gear stick may be the culprit. I'm waiting for one to arrive. Does anyone have any other advice or ideas as to...

W123 Windows, Brake Lights, Indicators, Fuel and Temp Gauge... gone!

Morning All, Whilst driving last night, number 12 fuse, (8A one) blew, and upon replacement went straight away again. I wasn't able to run any tests, chiefly because of the weather, but I wondered if anyone may have an idea of where to start with checks. The only possible thing I thought of was...

    W123 Dashboard Lighting

Evening All again, I've recently changed the dash panels on the old girl from plastic to wood. All good. It's just I wondered if the switches for the rear wiper, wash, interior light etc should light up? There appears to be a lead there for them but when I turn the lights on nothing lights up...

W123 Headlamp Washer & Wiper Electrics

Evening All, Hoping someone can help. I've recently been spending a bit of time sorting out the headlamp washer and wiper system on my 280TE. If I deal with the lamps first, the drivers side wiper worked, the passenger didn't, so I sourced a replacement motor, in fact two that had been tested...

    280TE 1982 Servicing

Thanks - Can I just double check do you mean the accelerator linkage or the gear stick one? One thing I've noticed is there's a fair bit of play on the accelerator cable and then takes up and does what it's supposed to. To me it doesn't seem right but I don't know enough about these yet to...

    280TE 1982 Servicing

Evening All, Still batting on with bits and pieces, but I'm still a little stuck on a couple of things. First my gearbox. When I go to pull away the car wants to be in second gear, but as soon as I put my foot on the accelerator however lightly she kicks down into first. The oil level is...

    Rear Roof Panel W123 Estate

Evening, I've got a sagging panel up top in the back of the old estate. I've seen it mentioned in other forums, but nothing about possible ways of straightening it. Has anyone got any info or advice on whether or not it can be done? Cheers, Mike

W123 Headlamp Washer and Rear Screen Washer

Evening All, I'm going through a few jobs on the 280TE, and while I've now got my headlamp wipers working properly, and the rear wiper motor repaired, the washer system now needs scrutiny, and before I start I wanted to ask for any tips and/or advice. The main screen washers work perfectly...

    W123 Gearbox

Still batting on with gearbox... During normal driving can anyone enlighten me as to the ratios of the gearbox. If I just poodle along the gearbox selects top gear just under 30mph, which sounds fine. The odd thing to me, let's say compared to the W124 is that there doesn't seem to be that...

Optimusprime, great name... Thanks, a bit of further traffic on this, just driven a hundred miles and the drip appears to have stopped... Mike

    W123 280TE - Fuel Leak

Evening Chaps, I've filled the new addition to the family full of petrol today for the first time. I wanted to add some additive to help clean the internals so I put £50 worth in, drove to ECP and back to get the additive, then topped up with the additive. I thought after putting the first...

    280TE 1982 Servicing

Jay, thanks for the info things are poodling along nicely. I've got a transmission oil filter and gasket to change, but having had a poke around underneath - where is the torque converter drain? When I was in the shop the guy in there said he had a '2 bolt' or a '3 bolt' filter. I've got a...

    W123 Gearbox

Thanks Jay. I've located the central locking issue, an actuator rear driver side. Still leaking a bit but working, which is a step in the right direction. Mike

    W123 Gearbox

Cheers for that I will do that. Looking at this and looking at info available online I'm thinking it could be the vacuum fitting on the box, as I do have a central locking issue too that could possibly be related? Mike

    W123 Estate Rear Speakers

Afternoon, I'm still acquainting myself with my TE, and at the back is a panel with those drilled through dots for speaker covers. I've looked under the panel and I can see speaker wires there ready, but no speakers are fitted. Does anyone know which speakers I can get to fit at all please...

    W123 Gearbox

Right I've done the fluid check and when running the dip says bang on the level. But as the book says I re-checked and it was just over an inch above the top line. Fluid looks clean but want to do the filter so I can rectify. Overfilled? Mike

    W123 Gearbox

Thanks for the reply - can't really answer other than you just kind of know? Let's say at traffic lights you feel it kick down into first as you come to a halt, plus I'm getting to about 10-12 mph then getting a change. No odd noises or anything.... Mike

    W123 Gearbox

Afternoon all, I've been posting on another thread and the subject of my gearbox has made me bring a fresh one here... I've just got a 1982 280TE and it's great. However, it seems to always pull away in first gear, whereas my old 124 does it in second unless I ask it to kick down. The 123...
