From what i know with T-mobile they have 2 different data unlimited plans. 1 is for general mobile use, the other is for tethering which is what you are doing with the mi-fi dongle. You need to check which plan the sim is on, as if its the mobile data only this may be the cause of the problem...

Well I have had the maf replaced and at first it seemed the problem had completely gone. It is still happening although much less frequent now. Any suggestions on what to try next? Iv had the car on diagnostics previously and no fault codes are stored it seems :(

i would first check the wiring to the lights. the connectors can corrode causing erratic behaviour to which light come on. I had this on previous cars. Is there any water getting into that area?
