    LED lights, compatibility?

Typically the 12V LED set ups draw between 170mA and 350mA - about a fifth of that drawn by the filament bulb they replace

    LED lights, compatibility?

I'd have to ask - why bother? Filament bulbs are cheap and last for ages. The only real benefit of LEDs is their lower power consumption - but this is not usually an issue in a car

Just received County Court Claim form (following RTA earlier this year)

Actually there is nothing wrong with a CCJ provided that you pay it immediately. If it is settled within a month then the judgement itself is removed and will not appear on your record. Is your company actually insured? With a fleet that size they migh "self-insure"

    0 - 60 Cdi

But a 4 or 5 speed box could have exactly the same top gear My first automatic was a Rover V8 that managed with just 3 gears in spite of having a much peakier torque curve than the 3,2 MB diesel. If you've got into th at 40 you are using each gear for a very small range of revs, which wastes...

    0 - 60 Cdi

I'm even more perplexed by 6 speed autos on diesels. While 6 speeds may make sense on a highly-tuned petrol engine with a comparatively narrow torque band it seems a bit overkill on a diesel that will pull throughout the rev range

    Mortgage advice please .

If they will then you don't want to go to them:) There is no such thing as a free lunch - so if they can offer you an incentive such as that (or even paying your arrangement fee) then it is because they are certain to make that much money out of you. If their margins are high enough to give...

    Haynes Manuals

Absolutely - I still have the Haynes Manuals for my first 4 or 5 cars, covered in oily fingerprints that bear witness to how useful they were. These days about all I use them for is to work out how to take the interior trim apart to replace the speakers :)

Bomb threat on UK flights to US

Why do you think the government had reacted as they have? If it is genuinely for reasons of public safety then it does bear comparison with other decisions they take for similar reasons (the speed limit reviews might also feature here).

Bomb threat on UK flights to US

It's really a matter of "proportionality". We know that 10 people are going to be killed on our roads today - so if we immediately banned cars that would undoubtedly save lives - but I don't hear many people crying out for that. Of course we don't know what "intelligence" the government have...

Bomb threat on UK flights to US

I have mixed feelings about the Government's reaction. Yes they have a duty to protect the public, but to some extent putting in place such restrictive security means that the terrorists have been successful even without actually attacking anything.

Add on sat nav units are naff

Ok, Ok - I admit it - I am seriously tempted by the Comand as an upgrade for the ICE - not to mention the fact that they look cool! However for the sat nav I would still prefer the Garmin. Does anyone know if it is possible to download a list of "known accident blackspots" into the...

    Sea Harrier for sale

It's possible that modern missiles can pack such a punch that it is not practical to provide thick enough armour to provide protection against a direct strike

Add on sat nav units are naff

True - but however you look at it the additional cost for the Sat Nav is much more than the cost of a 3rd party unit. More seriously by going to independent suppliers you get a choice of units that you cannot get from OEM. I happen to like Garmin - I've been using them on my boat for years...

Add on sat nav units are naff

Let me think - should I spend £1850 getting one fitted as an option or pop down to Halfords and pick up the latest Garmin for £99 :) Given the choice I would rather get my GPS system from a company whose business is making GPS systems (Garmin) rather than a car company; plus there's the...

making a claim on mobilo life for rust

I look forward to hearing how you get on. I am in a similar position having just bought a 99 car that is just beginning to show signs of rust and I need to take it to a dealer sometime to see what they say. Is there any evidence to suggest that some dealers are more supportive of these...

Confused at new law for child car seats

I thought that from Sept (3) would not be an option - that you will not be able to carry a child in the front seat if you do not have an appropriate child restraint.

Confused at new law for child car seats

I'm impressed by your knowledge of ECE regulations :) It is reassuring that previous standards are still acceptable (although the Gov website I looked at had worded it in such a way as to make it seem you needed the latest). However I suspect there is still a grey area with the rear seats in...

Confused at new law for child car seats

What concerns me are the rear-facing bench seats in my W210 estate. These are only designed for children (in fact the manual points out that it is dangerous to use them if you are more than 150cms tall) but because they are not officially certified to EU Directive 44.04 they do not technically...

Confused at new law for child car seats

I think the Halfords data is incorrect. At present you are not required to have child seats for any children unless they are travelling in the front seat (but if you do have them they must be used if possible). After Sept you will be required to have appropriate restraints for all children...

    Importance of FMBSH

I've been browsing the Forum for info on this issue - is it safe to assume that if the car does have FMBSH then the terms of the warranty have been fully complied with? By the time I've got the car home and read the small print it will be a bit late to find out that it is not covered - and I...
