    C350e lower front control arm

I just bought a genuine Merc lower front control arm as the dealer showed me that the car's left one was worn and their £440 replacement cost was too much. Does anyone know the torque settings for the 4 nuts associated with the arm? One online video specifically for the C350e shows the 4 nuts...

    C350e Consumption

My C350e starts up with 13 electric miles, never more. It actually manages about 8 miles battery driving to hospital, generally in free-moving traffic. Then, gentle driving, my usual mode, gives me battery running for about half the trip back home, so 12 miles in total. My electricity cost is...

    C350e Consumption

After doing that a couple of times I've found the car's doing around 20 mpg. I suppose the engine never gets hot in my 10 miles-each-way trips a day so that'll use more petrol. If I have to overtake I'll probably be using the engine too so that'll increase consumption even more. It's good the...

    C350e Consumption

Although that's very logical, it hadn't struck me to do that! Off to Tesco's this afternoon!

    C350e Consumption

My C350e's consumption seems good compared to my previous C220's as I haven't been to a garage for many months. It's been charged each day it's been used and the display tells me I'm doing 49mpg. The fuel gauge which, when I filled up had 12 marks lit up, has just gone down to 4. That could mean...

    W202 C220 water pump replacement

I was originally misled by the Haynes guide that said remove 2 bolts and use longer ones to attach their home made remover to the pulley. It's nearly impossible to fit the 18mm bolts back into the pulley let alone using longer ones to clamp the remover. I ended up drilling out the holes in the...

    W202 C220 water pump replacement

That'll be the next challenge. Any idea what size hex key fits the 6mm bolts? If I can't get them out with the fan in place I intend to shape and drill a steel bar to fit over the heads of two bolts to lever against with an adjustable on the 36mm nut.

    W202 C220 water pump replacement

Can anyone please advise the best way to get at the water pump of this 1995 petrol car? Mine's started to leak around the body so it needs replacing. The fan shroud can't clear the fan blades so I thought moving the rad forwards might help. It needed unbolting from the ac rad but finally...

    MAF sensor and serendipity

It's hard to make sure this is posted correctly because it covers too many parts. When I took off the tensioner pulley I broke its plastic cover. Since it protects the pulley bearing from crud I want to replace it but I can't find one online. There are plenty of the later ones that are screwed...

    MAF sensor and serendipity

The C220 suddenly slowed down and speeded up repeatedly, finally stalling. It was easy to restart and, with the MAF sensor disconnected, it worked fine when hot. So far so normal, but there was a rattling from the thermostat housing I'd never heard before when the engine revved or was revved...

I shouldn't have changed my wiper...

The more I think about it and the more I look at the throw-out mechanism the more I feel I'm probably misleading myself. It looks like it's actually a part of the casting which would mean there's no clean way to swap one from my casting to this one... and also that I mis-remembered what I saw...

I shouldn't have changed my wiper...

Off I go again. I bought a complete mechanism from ebay and tested and installed it today. The motor and linkage shook and squeaked and, after swapping these with good parts from my brazed casting, I found the extension mechanism clunked too! That noise had been camouflaged by the other noises...

...and all fractured in almost exactly the same place. It's good to know I'm not alone but somehow I find the consistency of the problem rather offputting.

I was surprised to find this online. Interestingly this LHD item's fracture follows almost exactly the same path as in mine.

    Duh. 23 year-old aluminium!

I shouldn't have changed my wiper...

I did the brazing and overhauled all the moving and movable parts. It works well, parking correctly, sweeping very cleanly and quietly with no hesitations and over the right distance - for now. I couldn't find anything loose but there was and is a slight twisting in the aluminium casting near...

Sorry I ignored your picture Dec. That is the connector my wiper motor has. This is the fracture.

I shouldn't have changed my wiper...

Well. The mis-sweeping continued until today Today it became a catastrophe. As well as hitting the horizontal trim on the driver's side the centre of the wiper blade had started to hit the lower part of the lower trim in front of the passenger side! I don't see how the blade got to an angle...
