    W208 sound system versus W209

I recently replaced my W208 CLK 230 with a W209 220CDI While I am generally happy with the switch things like ride quality being harsher, interior quality cheaper, and the sound system have been disappointments. Whereas the previous car had a very impressive sound with a 13 speaker system...

    EGR system removal.

While considering how essential the EGR system is with it's inherent complexity, and potential for problems, I came across a video for it's entire removal from BMW cars where there is even a kit available with blanking plates etc. Thereby increasing reliability, and removing the clutter from...

    Unknown electronic box.

I was in the process of removing the carpet on the passenger side front footwell (UK) when I noticed a black box behind the footplate and a cylindrical contraption next to it to the right. What are these? As I am about to have welding done to the underside in that area, I am concerned about...

    Boot lid not opening. W208

Hi guys, for several months now the boot actuator is not responding to either the remote control fob or the boot release button on the console. I can use the manual key. Is there a way to check that it is the actuator and not the vacuum pump? The door locks are working fine but the three flashes...

    Boot Stuck Shut on w208

OH DEAR!! The boot on my CLK has defied all my attempts to open it. The button on the console will not work despite the red light on that button being on. No luck with the key fob button or the manual key on the key fob. Is there any other way to access the boot or reset the solenoid that opens...

    W208 CLK locked in "Park"

This has become increasingly difficult to move the gear selector lever away from the "P" position while pressing the brake pedal. There is a manual release through a flap on the selector panel which I have used and this sort of works but with also with increasing difficulty. I've been told this...

    ball joint wear

Hi folks, just had an advisory on my Mot, there is some play on the upper wishbone/arm ball joint on the front suspension and I dont know if these are available seperately or as a complete arm as with some other manufacturers. Are Euro car parts likely to keep such items? I also noticed some...

    Insurance for over 50s

Hi everyone, it looks like the half century mark is approaching fast and in the eyes of some insurance companies we are safer and more responsible drivers. (In theory at least), Are there any insurers that still offer more competetive rates for the over 50s

    Instrument cluster removal W208

Hi, I have the typical dead pixels on a clk 230 which make the clock unusable. I have managed to locate the new ribbons requiered on ebay but cannot see a way of removing the cluster. Is this easy, or does the steering wheel and airbag need to come off too. What is the procedure. Any suggestions...

    Car Covers

Hi all, I sadly have to leave my CLk 230 unatended for two months while in Greece. As it will be out in the elements, I am considering using a car cover to keep it clean and dry and free from bird droppings. The shape however is a little unusual. Does anybody have any recommendations?

    Phone attachment

Hi all, I noticed there is a phone facility on the steering wheel wheel on a w208 clk. Bearing that these cars were designed before bluetooth was even dreamed of there must be a way of attaching a phone, (somewhere) by means of a cable. Can a modern smartphone be used on this link? I assume a...

    Steering wheel off centre

Hi all, the steering wheel on my clk is not dead centre when the wheels are straight. The error is only a few degrees so maybe its a case of removing the steering wheel and relocating it along the splines. I have done this on my saxo diesel and this involved removing the airbag first after...

    Dead digits on clock

Hi, this is probably familiar to a lot of CLK w208 owners when the clock on the instrument display becomes unreadable due to dying digits. I dont suppose there is a quick fix (or cheap) for this but I think I have found an acceptable alternative. A quick search on Amazon under car clock revealed...

    Pollen filter

Hi all, I have recently changed the air filter on my clk 230, fairly straight forward. There is also apparently a pollen/dust filter that frequently gets overlooked and can put extra strain on the fan motor when blocked. Where does that live, is it easy to get to and change?.

    Air Conditioning

Hi all, the air con appears no longer to work on my CLK. I assume its activated by turning the thumbwheel to the fully cold position and switching off the EC switch. Is this something that needs regular servicing, ie a recharge? I have seen some DIY kits on line in which case where do I attach...

    Fuel Additives

Hi all, is it ok to use certain additives on the 2.3 compressor engines, (m111) to clean the injectors and fuel system? At 67000 it may be time, but I don't know how effective they are and if the manufacturers claims are true. Anybody tried these, and is there a recommendation?

    Spark plugs.

Hi folks! I am getting the occasional misfire at idle on my CLK 230 and I suspect spark plugs. As there is no indication on the service records of when they were last changed I may as well take on out and take a look.Recommended intervals is every 40000 and I am looking at some NGK iridium...

    W208 fuel filter

Hi all, about to order a fuel filter for a clk 230 and supplier wants to know if it has one pipe in and one out or 2 in and 2 out. It is a 2000 onwards example which leads me to believe it is the latter. Reluctant to remove the tray until ready to fit filter. Any ideas?

    W208 auto transmission fluid leak.

Hi all, I bought my CLK 230 with a not too serious leak showing below the autobox sump. Autotechnic, my local indie picked this up too, said its more likely to be selector shaft oil seal. I checked level with a dipdtick bought on e-bay and its ok. At 66000 miles I was thinking of changing the...

    Rusty Wheelarches W208

Hi I have the all too familiar rust beginning to show on on rear wheelarch. I will probably get a bodyshop to do that one though its very minor and treat the rest with rust killer, zinc primer and underseal. Anywhere else on the car I should treat thats likely to be a problem? Any sugestions on...
