    W163 270CDI Dodgy MAF readings?

New Pierburg MAF finally arrived after the first one disappeared in the post. That fixed it, thanks E270.:thumb: So it turns out that an OBD reading of 8.88g/sec can be either the MAF is disconnected or not working and it doesn't throw an error code. Here's a good link from Pierburg...

    W163 270cdi starting issues

x2. There are 6 little o-rings in the fuel line connectors around the top and front of the engine. When they start to go you can just detect little air bubbles moving inside the clear plastic line coming out of the fuel pump at the front of the engine. It took me about an hour to replace them...

    W163 front axle noises

All fixed now with a new drivers side front wheel bearing. :) It took an apprentice 3 hours to do it, mostly because of the difficulty in pressing out the old bearing. FWIW it took about 1,000kms of highway driving for the noise to progress from just a vague suspicion of a hum to a clear...

    Bottom arm 270

I assume you mean that the lower shock mount is collapsed. If I were in your situation I'd be finding a good engineering shop with a very skilled welder to repair that. Otherwise I think you need to go to a genuine Mercedes dealer or a wrecking yard for the part.

    W163 front axle noises

Sorry Tony, I really can't help you there. I live in a sleepy seaside village 200 miles from anywhere on the far south coast of NSW. I assume you mean that the lower shock mount is collapsed. If I were in your situation I'd be finding a good engineering shop with a very skilled welder to...

    W163 front axle noises

Thanks for your replies. I'll check them as soon as I feel vaguely fit again. Just did an 1,800km round trip in 40 hours in the race car because the ML270 wasn't safe to take. Now half deaf, with arm cramps, numb bum, sun burn, monoxide poisoning ...

    W163 front axle noises

Bumping this to the top again. I still can't locate it. There seems to be a bit of a rhythmic hum to it, probably one cycle per wheel revolution. I've checked and rotated tyres. Wear patterns were all normal and it's made no difference. Brake rotors are perfect - even wear, no high...

    W163 270CDI Dodgy MAF readings?

Not yet. I'm still waiting for the new MAF to arrive but I'm not really hopeful a new MAF will fix it. Further investigation reveals oil all through the intake system, starting right back at the PCV assembly. It's pretty thick and nasty. I guess that somewhere this is causing another fault...

    W163 front axle noises

I don't think we're having a good run of luck with the ML270 this week. Now we have grinding/moaning/mild howling noises coming from somewhere up front. It's road speed related, not engine speed related. Location is very hard to pick, but most likely front drive. It sounds a...

    W163 270CDI Dodgy MAF readings?

Thanks, I was wondering about that. EasyOBD is fully functional on our W168 A-class and our W203 C-class petrol engines; there are no problems reading fault codes on them. However it registers the M-class diesel as "non-OBD compliant" but does state there are no fault codes present. My...

    W163 270CDI Dodgy MAF readings?

It's very quiet out there ... :( For what it's worth, here's an update: I finally managed to unstick some very stuck MAF connector lock pins and got the original MAF off. It had a light covering of black gunk which cleaned off easily with a spray can of electronic components cleaner. I...

    W163 270CDI Dodgy MAF readings?

I have a 2005 ML270CDI with 170,000kms on the clock. Never had a problem until recently when it started to toggle in and out of Limp Mode. We use an ELM327 OBDII scanner with EasyOBD USB software. When I start the engine, all OBD values (e.g. RPM, coolant temp, intake temp, manifold...
