    W202 C240 Humming from Rear

Hello all. I've recently picked up a lovely old W202 C240 Sport. The only thing wrong with it at the moment is a bit of a headscratcher. The car intermittently makes a relatively loud humming noise with strange symptoms, and it sort of sounds electrical. It's one of those annoying noises where I...

    W220 Propshaft Variants

I'm in urgent need of a replacement propshaft for my W220 S320 CDI L. However, I'm having trouble sourcing one. There don't appear to be any for sale. It needs to be both LWB and with the 4 point bolt pattern rather than 3. My question is, does engine choice affect the propshaft? There are a...

    W220 Driveline Vibration

Many thanks for the replies all. Should've said that yes I've done the usual neutral and gear checks. The vibration doesn't change at all if I shift down or knock into neutral, which is why my first thought was rubber couplings. Would that make sense to everyone else?

    W220 Driveline Vibration

Hello all. Just picked up a fairly high mileage W220 S320 CDI. All looking surprisingly well kept, other than the fact that there's some fairly significant vibration that occurs only when decelerating or coasting at speeds over around 50mph. I'm thinking perhaps tired rubber in the driveshaft...

    W210 Side and headlights

Yes, I'm about to go and pick up the new bulbs. I'm well aware they need to be replaced in pairs, I was just concerned that the side light had gone at the same time and therefore there was also a problem not related to the bulbs. Indicators are working fine.

    W210 Side and headlights

My n/s xenon started to turn an orangey colour last week, so I swapped the bulbs over to the other side to make sure the bulb was the culprit. Sure enough, the n/s was fine and the o/s went dodgy. However, the bulb has now failed completely, and the o/s side light has gone out entirely too...

    '00 W210 E430 Whooshing Noise - Fan Clutch?

Thanks for the input - I'll make that my first concern. Need to source those tools though, and I can only see US sellers. Picture here. Please excuse the alloys - they've since been refurbished!

    '00 W210 E430 Whooshing Noise - Fan Clutch?

Hi all, I have an 2000 E430 that makes an irritating whoosh on acceleration, and sounds kind of like a bus if you know what I mean. I'm thinking that perhaps this is the fan coming on constantly and unnecessarily as the result of a bad fan clutch? Once operating, the engine temp stays at...

    W220 Twitchy Rear

And the rear camber does not look at all right according to that doc?

    W220 Twitchy Rear

Not really a cost thing; I always knew the car would eat money, it's just that the ABC is both very unreliable and relatively specialist and not something that can be fixed quickly. Having done a bit of research, the toe on the rear wheels looks pretty significant; can anyone advise if the...

    W220 Twitchy Rear

That is true! Considering the Strutmaster conversion in a couple of months though.

    W220 Twitchy Rear

Ok thanks. Will look into it more when I get the car back. Hoping the pump/strut haven't died too because that will add extra time, but I'm assuming they'll have been taken out. Turned off the engine when it happened, but it had to be switched on a couple of times to get the car onto the...

    W220 Twitchy Rear

Update: Car is currently in the process of being fixed. Back to the twitchiness issue. I've read another instance of this happening on an S55, and the culprit turned out to be misalignment whereby the garage had incorrectly matched the rear to the front, not taking into account the wider...

I won't be trying that then.

    W220 Twitchy Rear

So the saga continues, and now the dealership wants the car repaired at their premises. With one corner at its lowest, is the car completely undriveable, or could I get away with moving it a couple of miles on flat road in the dead of night?

    W220 Twitchy Rear

An update for anyone following: Garage have identified a leak in one of the system lines. Strut and pump appear to be OK for now, but they say they won't know for certain until the leak has been fixed. Does that sound about right? They certainly seem to know their way around the ABC system.

    W220 Twitchy Rear

Brilliant, thanks for the info. There may well be hope yet. Just waiting to hear back from the specialist.

    W220 Twitchy Rear

Do you have any more info on this? I was under the impression we were talking a good £500 each for the struts and pump, with lots of labour on top.

    W220 Twitchy Rear

The car didn't settle quite right when I pulled up in the work car park after lunch. Tried raising and lowering to see if it would sit properly, and the front driver side simply gave out and lowered right down to the tyre. Red warning came on, so I got out and saw that the sytem had expelled...

    W220 Twitchy Rear

A shame indeed; I knew her for just 48 hours. Dealer will be picking up the bill, but I'd imagine they'll just want to refund me and cut their losses.
