alarm or entry

HELP ! When using the keyless entry on my 98 E240 estate the side indicator failed to flash thus the doors do not unlock and the alarm stays activated. I have tried another set of batteries in the "key" but the condition remains the same. Can the alarm be switched off ? is there an alarm fault...
