    ATF change...?

My 2004 C180K Coupe is due a service and I was wondering if now is a good time to have the auto-box oil changed? The car has done 40K miles, gear changes seem fine, not slow or sticking at all. I've read some saying that the gear box is sealed for life, others saying the oil does need to be...

    W202 C240 Gearbox Oil Change

I've been reading all the ATF change threads and I recon I'm reasonably clued up on what I need to do. The hardest bit for me I think will be the fact that I can't get the car very high off the ground and I'll have to do it all lying down on the driveway.... However, I do have one question...

    W202 5-speed ATF Dipstick

Currently trying to fashion up a dipstick for checking the gearbox oil. I've used the level measurements for the dipstick from the photo on an old thread here. My first attempt looked the business but was too stiff and wouldn't go round the bends (an old VHF arial). My second attempt is...

Rough Gear Changes - Changing ATF

Hi all, As is the norm for my posts, some background followed by a question. You may wish to skip straight to the footer :) Background The hard gear change was once a rare occurrence. Now it is becoming more frequent. My W208 has done 96k and I have no way of knowing whether the ATF has...

    too much ATF... That bad?

just checked the gear box oil, thanks to the Parrot of doom with the picture and DieselMan for the dimensions as well, I checked it and I have about 1 centimeter over the limit. Is that OK as the extra oil pressure might go up the tube? Is that bad? Is that really bad? Thank you all. Olivier I...

    W211 ATF Cooler Concern

Hello and Merry Xmas everyone, Being a Dec 2003 built W211 220 CDI owner with 115K km , I am getting concern with the horror stories of auto transmission failures due to coolant contaminated ATF due to leaks from the Valeo supplied radiators (I’m not sure what make mine is as I cannot find any...

    ATF levels 722.6

Hi, does anyone know why there is a level for cold ATF (10-20mm) and a level for hot ATF (54-64mm)? Does the ATF expand when it gets heated or is there another explanation? The reason I ask is that I drained my gearbox and torque converter when they were hot. I measured the amount of hot oil...

    W203 Atf Change Advice Please

'03 C220 cdi auto estate ( 35k+ miles ) shortly due an A service. MB Indie recommends atf change at 36K miles regardless of whether g'boxes are sealed or not due to subsequent problems with the sealed untis. If the box is a sealed unit is it still wise to change the atf ( if it's sealed how...

    ATF change advice

My 96 C280 has now done a whopping 71K miles!! I quite fancy getting the ATF changed, but I want it done properly. What is the correct procedure for this? Does it need filters etc, and does the torque converter cover need removing or something? Can anyone recommend an honest place near Epsom...

    Dipstick ATF

Has anyone else noticed how difficult it is to use their MB dipstick on the auto box ? As the end part is made of flexible plastic, it can be confusing to know when the dipstick hits the bottom of the sump, without bending, and giving a false reading ?

    ATF Change

Looking at HOWTO: Change the ATF on 97 W210: http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=23969 'I should add that we filled it back up with about 5.5 litres of new ATF. I'm assuming that the 1.5 litres we had left over (the capacity is 7 litres IIRC) is because some of the old fluid is...

    ATF overfill

W124 E280, 722.433 transmission: I've just done a long hot run at motorway speeds (the first long run since having the ATF changed by an independent 'specialist'), and had the dreaded smokescreen behind me on the M5. I pulled over, the underneath of the car was streaked with ATF. I pulled into...

    Dip stick for ATF

I was trying to check the ATF(automatic transmission fluid) level in a W211 but it requires a special key to undo the filler cap. Printed on the red filler cap "Workshop Only". I am aware it does not require a ATF change until 70,000 miles. How do you guys bypass it without going to very...

    ATF Change on my W124

Hi i finally got round to changing the ATF on my 1994 E300D Estate (W124). There wasnt anything apparent wrong with the changes, apart from 3rd to 4th being a bit rougher than the other gears when accelerating hard but nothing major. But even though car came with an extensive history...

    ATF fluid change

I intend to change the ATF in my 1992 300SL and I would like to use AMSOIL synthetic ATF instead of DEXRON 11.The Amsoil web page recomends the oil for my gearbox but I have been told by a local Garage that the synthetic will case problems and damage the brake bands and cause the gearbox to...

    Atf renewed--enough oil ??

My indie has just carried out an oil change on my auto-gearbox w202 C240 V6. They used 3.4 litres of Texaco auto gearbox oil in a gearbox that holds 7 litres. My concerns are the amount and type used. I would be most grateful for members opinions.

    W210 ATF fluid level

Anybody know where to get a dipstick from for checking the ATF level on a 1999 W210 autobox. As you know Merc in their wisdom no longer fit a dipstick. Or does anybody know what the level should be from the bottom if I use another stick from something else ? As far as I know the stick goes in...
