autoradio or cdplayer

Hi all, Just simple question; I own a W203 - C200 CDI 2001. In the car is right now an original autoradiocdplayer. But if I plug another brand autoradio in, only power goes on (example a backlight) and thats it. I also got info around me, is that you need switch cable in that connector. But...
