Evening all, could anyone point me at a splitter that will be suitable for the track rod ends on my w210? There's various types on fleabay and I've already tried the fork type one which has knackered the rubber seal. I guess the scissor type ones would be better but there seems to be a variation...
Came across the link to video on how to split a suspension ball joint. Not foolproof but there's a bit of explanatory text plus a short video. This is a good example of a picture/video that's worth a 1000 words.:thumb: Splitting an auto ball joint taper Go to step one to see the video.
Hi All
I recently has a wheel alignment check and was advised to replace my nearside upper wishbone ball-joint (too much negative camber, inside of tyre goosed).
A quick call to Mercedes and I cannot buy an upper ball joint, I have to buy the whole arm at £118 + VAT
Does anyone...
Having just changed the front tyres on my car I noticed both were excessively worn at the outer edges. Recall a few posts about this type of wear being due to worn ball joints. Is this the case?
My car goes in for an MOT next week and now has brand new front tyres but to avoid premature wear...

Looks as if the old bus will require a bit of steering gear work in the near future. :( This will necessarily involve some ball joint splitting. Techniques employed seem to vary from the " hit it on the side with a large hammer school" through pickle forks to dedicated scissors type...
Hi all, I've had an MOT advisory on both top ball joints worn.
The problem I've got is that the local factors don't list top joints.
Do I have to replace the whole top suspension arm?
:wallbash:
Barely two months after replacing two wheels because I hit a kerb which also involved having the OSF track rod end and ball joint replaced and steering geometry realigned I get it back from the MOT today with an Advisory Notice from the testing centre that there is play in both NSF and OSF ball...

Just had the car MOT today, it passed but with advisories of nearside and offside front suspensions have slight play in lower suspension ball joints.
Also nearside and offside front suspension lower dust covers missing/split.
Do you think I should get them done before next MOT, I only do 5K...
I have noticed from reading the forums that some Mercedes suffer from lower ball joint problems [noisy/total failure].
Does anyone know if the a-class has similar concerns?
Thanks,
Chris
It was MOT day last Monday, it passed with an advisory that the flont right bottom ball joint had play in it.
Did a search here for some clues and there are some conflicting stories.
So here's the question
Is it an easy DIY job?
Are the old ones press fitted?
Can they be...
My CLK recently needed replacmenet lower ball joints for the MOT.
However since then, when I turn the car (especially to the left) you always hear a squeaking sound. It's getting annoying now. The mechanic who did the work said it was the brakes.
Thing is it never made the sounds before...
Hi Guys,
I remember hearing somewhere that the ball joints on a E320 coupe are not replacable and that you have to change the whole wishbone. is this true?
Thanks,
Kully
Just looking for a bit advice, the suspension ball joint on my 190 decided to snap at the pin resulting in the arm being fired down by the coil spring and through the inside of the alloy wheel. Just pulling out of a parking bay so no other damage. I have replaced the ball joint and bush assembly...
Chapter 1
Heard the usual clonking noise, did the search and bought a couple of ball joints, so far so good.
Saturday morning, leisurely start, wheel brace out, loosen nuts.
Holy cow! or words to that effect, appears someone had torqued the buggers up [I actually broke out into a sweat just...
Following on from this thread, I've been working out the options regarding replacing the ball joints on my W201.
KLANN make a very good hydraulic press kit for replacing the ball joints on the front lower control arms (wishbones) as shown in the following short video clip...
Hi,
I've noticed a noise appearing from the driver's side front wheel area on my manual 2.5-16, it sounds like a squeeking/squeal type sound which is more noticable when steering.
I haven't driven the car for a couple of weeks, jacked it up to have a very quick look but I haven't got...
