hesitation or slipping

I have an intermittent niggle that I hope is simple.(But usually these things arent!) When accelerating sometimes it feels like the gearbox or clutch is slipping slightly. It doesnt happen very often, normally when under load or when cold. I just want to nip any potential problems in the bud...
