Had the car for a little over a week and 800 miles now and I've pinned the clonking at the front to a lower ball joint, the front one of the 2, on the end of an alloy arm. This one. Can someone tell me what this is called so I can order one, and is it a DIY job? Thank you in advance.
I am contemplating changing the ball joints myself, quite handy with a spanner and fancy a go.
Firstly, I need a spring compressor. Clearly there is the Klann tool at one end of the price spectrum at the other there are the kits such as the ones on ebay and amazon about £60-£70.00...
What warranty usually comes with genuine parts, I replaced the 2 lower ball joints last year for the mot and one was picked up this year in October I checked it at the weekend and it is way worse and there is slight play in the other side now.
They have been fitted around 14months the rubber...
Need to replace the joints at the chassis end of the guide/brake tube - anyone know if it can be done in situ, or do you have to remove half the suspension to get the thing out?
I've already sussed that I should measure it before taking it apart...
I have a 2012 Vito I got for family camping trips this summer, brilliant little van.
But it's developed a bit of a dry U joint in the steering which has been accentuated by sticking a set of 18" alloys on. (The size is an option for this van).
A quick lube with penetrating oil or...
Hey guys, a very quick one,
I'm doing my lower ball joints on my e220 W211 tomorrow, and have ordered the ball joint press kit linked below:
Mercedes Ball Joint Kit REMOVER EXTRACTOR Press Tool KIT W220 W211 W230 FR | eBay
It hasn't turned up yet, so I'm just posting to see if anyone has...
Just wanted to find out what tools (by brand/location) you guys recommend when it comes to ball splitting and removal/install . Is the stuff on ebay ok or is it just badly made putty? anything to go for or avoid?
I've gleaned a good idea on how to go about the job from searches on...
My car is a 1994 R129 SL500
A recent MOT threw up OSF ball joint play. My Indie quoted to replace - roughly £35 for the ball joint plus fitting.
He then called back to say that the ball joint was actually cast into the lower control arm and that the whole arm would need replacing...
I've noticed hardly no or very little conversation on this MB club forum about this, whereas on other similar sites it has been comprehensively covered - don't know why that should be - especially since it is an absolute essential to be aware of as this repair will save thousands of pounds...
Checked the W211 out at the weekend as it's due an MOT next month.
Few things wrong at the front, upper/lower ball joints, track control arm, and track rod ends (mixture of wobbly joints & burst gators).
Went ahead today and replaced the offending parts, upper ball joints, control...
I have been getting a suspension 'clunk' for a while on the nearside. Jacked it up today and found play at the Hub Carrier swivel joint where it is bolted to the Spring Control Arm (lower wishbone). It looks to me as though the swivel is part of the Hub Carrier and to get a new swivel means a...
Bottom ball joints are worn on the car
local independent garage removed the ones on the car attempted to fit new
rang me and said that they wouldn't fit
Basically the new ones are 40mm O/D and the ones they have removed are 39mmO/D
they have tried a few aftermarket ones...
My 2008 C200 CDI failed the MOT today on :
Suspension arm has excessive play in a ball joint offside front lower (rear) [2.4.G.2]
Could someone kindly point out which one that is, and whether it is just a bush to be replace or the whole arm ?
I can DIY these things, but...
not sure if anyone can help me, I need to replace the drivers side ball joint on my 2004 (53 plate) E320 CDi.
I was hoping for some advice on this & if possible where best to source parts for this job from.
Thanks in advance
Hi folks, just had an advisory on my Mot, there is some play on the upper wishbone/arm ball joint on the front suspension and I dont know if these are available seperately or as a complete arm as with some other manufacturers. Are Euro car parts likely to keep such items? I also noticed some...
quick question, i have been told that my O/S lower ball joint needs replacing on my e320.
so i have called around a few places to get quotes for the job and some garages are telling me that i will need to do both sides and others have said just the side that is failing.
My C55 exhaust pipe is cracked, concealed beneath the rearmost clamp where the o/s rear box is connected to the central/n/s box. The crack runs around the pipe right where the pipe meets the flare for the joint about half the way round at the mo, so I can imagine a weld then ground down would...
