Now that this is an MOT item since the beginning of the year, my 1983 230E has failed only on the covers being damaged ..DOH! Fair enough, but, although Mercedes do a repair kit, I can't find one in the UK. I could buy the ball joints and swop rubbers but that seems an expensive option. I see...

Has anyone every had to do any work on the UJ at the bottom of the steering column? Reason I ask is I have a strange "Loose" type feeling when I shake the steering wheel and it can sometime be felt when driving. More annoying than anything. I have had all the suspension components...
Tried to change a track rod end at weekend on the 1997 E300TD ... Only to find that my ancient ball joint splitter does not fit these ball joints. :(
Can anyone recommend a suitable tool at a fair price.
Thanks.

I've recently been having squeaking/creaking from the front O/S of the car.
Local independent could not find the cause as the problem was intermittent but they said that the car would pass an MOT.
Today my local stealership has informed me that the lower steering ball joint is...
Hello all,
So I thought I was going to start an easy job but it's been one problem after another, as is the way!
I've had to change both lower ball joints and in the process of getting one off the pin on the ball joint came off and has snapped so there's only a small stub left. Any idea...

Making the most of the weather today, time for new front discs/pads, also have new bottom ball joints, as i have a slight judder at 60mph, but just noticed one steering damper( which is what i assume to be) is leaking, Now would this be the likely culprit? i do not want to change the ball...
Hi all,
After so long I'm back to pick your brains again!
Today my local fortune tellers (MOT) have failed my trusty car on a "offside front suspension ball joint" it has excessive play.
I know this was caused by a very well placed 14ins deep pot hole that I hit in the dark last weekend...
So yesterday I had my winter tyres fitted on the 201 and on the way home I started getting a horrible noise coming from the front O/S.
It sounded like a rubbery graunchy sort of noise when turning the steering wheel. Initially I thought it was a tyre rubbing but concluded that it couldn't be...
Hi folks, anyone got an idea of how much it would cost for replacing a front lower suspension ball joint? My beloved 230ce has just failed it's MOT - first time in 20+ years and there's me thinking these Mercs were meant to be reliable!!!!!
I'd normally take my beloved to a specialist garage...
The title says it all.
While fettling my front brakes on the E300TD, I've noticed what appears to be excessive play in the inboard tie rod ball joint on the driver's side.
Is this a common problem ?
So far, I have not removed the boot.
Is there lube in there ?
Is this adjustable ?
Do they...
I have a good secondhand rubber U/J to fit to the front of my 107 propshaft. The rubber is marked DIESE SEITE GELENK or 'this side joint'.
Since both sides of the 'joint' are the same...I'm CONFUSED.COM.
Which direction of the prop does this writing face? Towards gearbox or towards diff...
My indie says I need a new (front passenger side) ball joint as there is a bit of play in it and it's an MOT failure. He said the part is £149 plus it will take about an hour to change. Isn't £149 a lot just for a ball joint? Seems expensive to me. When I asked him about his he said it's all...
Took the right rear wheel off my new (for me) W123 this morning to check (and lube) the wheel bearings, and also find the source of a scraping coming from that area. What I found was so shocking, I'm still realing.
Found the most spectacular CV joint failure I've ever seen. There was a hole...
