    1993 IR key re-programable?

    Can the early IR keys be re-programed? My uncle has lost his 1993 W140 500SE key but I have a spare one. The key is the single button IR type. If we buy a used key can we reprgram the internals and just cut a new actual key for it? I know the new smart keys can't be re-programed but I'm not sure...
