I noticed the weekend whilst changing the rear brake pads that my O/S/R shock is weeping hydraulic fluid. It looks like its been like this for some time. My question is, how easy is it to replace the shock and should I replace both at the same time. Given they appear to be about £200 each, I'd...
Had a malfunction message come up, and assumed it was power steering fluid.
Find out the steering fluid and self levelling rear suspension fluid are as one, and level was dropping due to leaking s/l shock.
Fixed now but beware £300 [for the part] shock absorbers......glad it wasn't both of...
Hi all,
Just wonder if anybody here has some ideas to my problem.
I had all shocks (MB) replaced on my 98' W210 last Friday.
All of them now seem to make a knocking noise when going through potholes.
I made the garage who replaced them to double check that all fixing are tight. They are...
My E220 squeaks! The squeak comes from the front offside everytime i go over a bump. If the car is stationary and i push that part of the car up and down i can hear the squeak.
I am sure its the shock and wanted to know if anyone can give me an idea of what cost i should be expecting when i...
It was revealed today that in order to cut costs that owners of the new Smart For2 model will receive their car as as a "flat pack" The new body which is made out of cardboard will be assembled by owners themselves with the copious aid of scissors and rolls of duck tape (supplied). I...
Rumours that Smart cars are trying to win a greater market share by boosting their cars with illegal performance enhancing drugs appears to be true.;) a man called "Alabama Jake" is believed to be helping police with their enquiries
On a brighter note the Smart 2 seater ROADSTER...
Having been feeling that my car was a little spongy I decided to replace the dampers.
This is a simple job and can be done at home without special tools or equipment.
Tools required:
6mm spanner or molegrips, 16mm and 17mm spanners and 16mm and 17mm sockets.
Phillips screwdriver and flat...

Whilst looking at the front shocks yesterday I noticed that I could see the actual rod inside and the rubber boot/cover outside is not fixed to the main body of the shock but fixed at the top.
I hope I am explaining this right...
A lovely little older lady I know (My mum) has just been quoted £484  (without labour) for a double sleeved universal steering joint for her 1999 A160 which I sold her a while back. The steering makes a slight knocking noise when the wheel is turned one way then the other by a small...
Does anyone know or can they check the difference between the two following shock caps (the rubber bit that sits between the shock and the car body). Can someone look it up on the EPC? I dont fancy ringing the dealer as I get the feeling they will avoid the question totally saying they are not...
I just got a set of the eBay Bilstein shocks but when the shocks arrived two were fitted with rubber caps (with integral bushes) and two just had the metal plate that is the top part of the dust cover  . (see photo)
I was going to fix the car yesterday but got called out to work :( ...
I'm going to change the front shocks on my W124 260E as the existing ones are very tired. Not certain if I need to do the rears, so I'll replace the fronts and see how I get on.
I'm fairly handy with a spanner or 2 but just wnated to know if there are any pitfalls I should be wary of.
From an...
Stumbled accross this last night on ebay:

My car has a sports chassis anyway, so not looking for any sort of upgrade as such, but I decided that I would take a bit of a gamble (have not had time to do any research for part numbers and such).
As far as I know, Bilstein are a fairly...
I have been informed that there are no shock absorbers in the UK for my 1997 E-Class estate. Further, they are back-ordered and unavailable from MB in Germany!
I find this incredible! How can there be no shocks available? This is not a rare replacement part.
If I were into conspiracy...
YEEEE-HAAAAA!!!!

Many thanks to Lawrence in service at Rycroft in Stockton, and Jamie the mechanic who sorted that and an engine problem. Next person into Rycroft - Let Lawrence know...
[this is posted on behalf of Vito, so he takes 100% of the credit for everything here. The only piece I could possibly add is an alternative headline along the lines of "Santa in non-Silver Shocker" :D - Kinky]
We finally have the proof that Santa will make it to all of us this Christmas time...
