My car is a C63 AMG and it has the 7G MCT gearbox.

Having looked around I can see respected specialists will change the oil for around the £200 mark (I'm aware of three with excellent reputations either online or locally in this ballpark).

I have a local specialist, apparently highly recommended, and they list a 7G transmission oil change for £195 incl VAT on their website. Brilliant, recommended, local and a good price......but when I phoned up to book I was told for an AMG the price is £295 !? I asked why because the gearbox is the same, the oil is the same and the job to change the oil is the same as a non AMG car...the answer is because it's an AMG!

This kind of irked me. I'm being openly charged an extra £100 apparently just because they think I can afford it.

I'm wondering what others think? Suck it up, I should be able to afford it, or is the specialist taking the piss? Am I missing something?

It might be the special AMG oil extracted from the AMG mountain in AMGland by 14 AMG virgins?

That would be my guess, unless it's a full fluid exchange. In which case there may more more fluid due to bigger torque converter, extra transmission coolers etc that require more fluid.

Can I have their phone number?

I wonder if I will get charged £100 less once I told them my car is a "C180".

I wasn't going to identify them on the forum because my car is currently still booked in to go to them!

If I cancel.. which is likely...then I might give the details!

Why don't you ask them? That's a fair question.

It's exactly the same fluid spec, although some 7G boxes have 0.7 litres more fluid if you manage to drain the entire gearbox.

They'll say anything if there's a few quid in it.
They have been trained by Mercedes after all.

The MCT 7 speed does not have a torque converter to begin with. The draining of the MCT is not as straight forward as previous AMG boxes. Around £250 to £350 is the figure you will be looking to pay.

I am getting the feeling most people are thinking the same way I do - they're ripping me off !

Are you sure? The workshop instructions I've seen show it to be exactly the same. There's a drain screw for the MCT part instead of the Torque converter so the process is the same.

It's not the actual price I have an issue with but the fact I'm being charged extra when the fluid, filter and the job is the same.

Actually the garage didn't ask if it was the MCT box either.

The cooling system should be drained on the MCT also. That's where the procedure is more work related. Some garages don't drain the cooling system, well according to them when I was inquiring. A well thought after garage on this forum to be precise.

Joking aside, it is possible that the oil used is different/more expensive but without knowing the truth...

Have you tried the main dealer just as a gauge? Amazingly some indies can end up charging you more for a job than the dealer.

The indie I use in Cardiff is not much cheaper than the main dealer, but I'd rather use them every time, as then I know it's being worked on by a specialist enthusiast rather than a YTSer at the dealership.
