It was simple. The car has a full MB history but as mentioned above I'd rather have my car worked on my someone experienced and with a personal interest in doing the job correctly (because they have a reputation to maintain).
So the choice was lose the MB history but have someone who cared work on the car. The anticipated lower cost then tipped the balance in favour of the specialist. The surprise "loading" of the bill concerns me.
If the work required truly is more (which is why I posted this) then all is well. The problem is that I don't think it is and sometimes garages don't always tell the full truth either. I thought I'd seen the WIS for the gearbox on my car and the document linked to my my chassis is the same for all 7G boxes. I will now double check that.
The service plan doesn't work for me because this gearbox has had its officially required one service and according to the service schedule doesn't need another (ever). I'm therefore spending on servicing over and above what I'd get in a service plan.
