£1800 for b service!

So the main dealer where car was serviced last year (A service for £500 ish) emails me inviting to book for a B service.

I start the online process. Quote was £1800! I fell over.

Once resuscitated I looked more closely. It was 1k and 4 things had been added on which could be de-selected. Brake fluid £150/sunroof lube £50/air filer £125/plugs £470.

Odd thing is plugs were changed at previous B. Didn’t realise they are done that frequently. It’s only done 8k miles.

So; questions
1. Is this now standard B servicing costs?
2. If TTP (taking the p*ss) would you shop around?
3. Is main dealer servicing an unnecessary luxury on a 2019 C63s?
4. Would declining all extras still maintain FMBSH?

Cheers

The plugs are every 2 years. Seems excessive for the mileage, I know, but they have a habit of getting very crusty in the tubes, and can become hard to remove if left. A decent independent specialist is probably the better place to be going with a 5 year old AMG now. Many of us are enthusiasts too, and the car will get much more attention to detail for a better price. A no brainer in my opinion, but I am a little biased ;)

I usually pay independent specialists around £70 for a brake fluid change on top of the service/MOT work. No need to have that done at the dealer at the same time as the B service.

2019 car, I think that changing the auto gearbox fluid is every 5 years, don't know about the C63 but on normal 9G gearboxes this is an expensive service cost.

Seems so but the service plan would cover the base price of the service wouldn't it? All the additional work would also be "additional" on top of the service package

No . Most are included . 👍 They have been for my glc 350 anyways . follow the above link , it tells you what's due and costs.

So far I've had 2 air filters ,cabin filter, dust filter, fuel filter, full 9g gearbox service, front diff and TCU oil serviced, brake fluid. All included.

Things like brakes you have to pay extra for . Not sure on spark plugs , you'd need to ask.

As above. If the car has full MB service history so far, then everything that falls due in the next service will be done for the service plan's fixed cost.

The only caveat is thar you'll get included everything that the computer says is due... but only that. I.e. if you are convinced that the ATF or plugs are due, but MB's computer says No, then it won't be done under the service plan..

Why the reluctance to use a proper Mercedes independent at this stage?

Most switch at between three to five years’ old, unless the servicing cost just gets picked up by the company accounts

I think partly due to geography.

Most Indies are significantly better value than main dealers, but if you’re in certain parts of the country the Indie costs are not that far below main dealer prices and you lose Mobilo.

If it’s a schedule item based upon time or mileage - like A/B service, spark plugs, transmission fluid, air filter, fuel filter, cabin filter - then it’s included in the cost of a service plan.

If it’s a repair or replacing something worn - like brake discs, pads, suspension dampers, springs, bushes, tyres, wiper blades - then it’s on top as they’re not part of a schedule service.

And you’d lose free coffee, a pretty receptionist and fast WiFi…

In leafy, leafy South West London, the difference in cost and quality of service is immense.

I stayed with MB for year 7, year 8 is due soon but this time I'm definitely not using MB, the price is close to 1000

I stayed because of their breakdown service, Mobilo.
Years 4/5/6 I bought a service plan for a B - A - B service and this included year 5's ATF change on the A service (plan bought via Black Friday sale IIRC it was approc 1250, certainly over 1200 and below 1300)

(my car gle, got new, done 23k miles, about 2k miles since last service 250d amg line NOT AMG) B service, the extras

  • Replace brake fluid -
    £136.06
    incl. VAT

  • Replace air filter element -
    £119.16
    incl. VAT

  • Replace fuel filter -
    £168.24
    incl. VAT

My local MB has been 975
another across the river Thames that was close to 200 pounds cheaper is now matching/raising their prices
to my local dealer that used to be owned by MB ie 975. I'd been across the thames once, last year and the service was 180 cheaper but
they are the same price now

If you take away the "extras" at approx 424 pounds you are still left with a massive 551 pounds for what is really not
more than an oil and filter change. Daylight robbery IMO

now as opposed to the 975 when I looked at the service costs about three months ago

Exactly what I did with the glc. I bought a 3 year warranty that required service upkeep. I got the mb a.b.a at year 4 ,so it worked out ok. When it ends I'll go back to RAC cover and DIY services .
