What the page states is "the price for the car would be $1300 USD or $500 USD for a still usable car". What this means is not the PRICE of insurance policy, but the prices of the vehicles in Lithuania. For $500 USD you can still get a car (like Ford Escort, 1982-1984 reg) which you'll be able to drive.

For your interest, I'll give you a link: Here right-click the link and choose "Open in new window". This will get you straight to the biggest insurance company in Lithuania and their vehicle insurance quote page. The quote will be given to you straight away in the next page. I'll explain how to fill the form and what it means. Don't worry, this form doesn't require your e-mail address, so no junk-mail will be sent.
So, the first tab - choose you engine size (in cc)
Second - the year that vehicle was made in (YYYY format)
Third - leave it as it is, unless you work as a cab driver
Fourth - from drop-down list choose Kaunas (the most expensive insurance there because of the crime rate)
Fifth - your current age
Sixth and seventh - leave as it is.
Press "TOLIAU".
Your insurance quote is in bold shrift. Divide the numbers by 5, since 1 GBP is 5 LTL. There you go. :)
If you'd know smaller insurance companies, you can get that reduced, since "Lietuvos Draudimas" is the biggest and most expensive company in Lithuania. :)
Share your quotes :)

£52 for my BMW ... bargain !

Although as I don't speak any 'Lithuanian', I could be buying anything there !! I'm just taking your word for it that its for car insurance ;)

And that's a YEAR'S insurance quote :) :) :)

Is that related to the cost of items over there? e.g. Clothes, food, housing etc?

e.g. in China the average salaried factory worker gets around £1.50 to £2 a day and that is very well paid compared to their countryside counterparts. Other items are very cheap indeed. You only have to witness the shift of manufacturing there. I don't know the cost of car insurance in China but I guess it would be along similar lines, perhaps the same with owning a car in Bombay, Romania too from speculation.

Well, yeah. The average salary in LT is 1,200.00 LTL a month. Insurance being 500 LTL at the most is not expensive even at that rate. Let's say that clothes are cheaper here (and more to choose from). If to make an economic comparison of 1 GBP being equal to 1 LTL - that is if you make 1,200.00 GBP per month and your insurance is 500 GBP per year - the petrol cost would be 3.10 GBP per litre, a month's supply of food would come out to 200 GBP per person (that's by eating everything without saying NO to cravings) and etc.

Sorry, went off topic :)

You are not the policy holder though are you? The NCD belongs to the policy/policy holder, therefore you are building up precisely zero no claims. At least that's how my feeble brain worked it out ;)

if your insurance company is friendly they might give Howard a few years NCB if he insures with them.... thats what happend to my m8 who was on his dads insurance for 3 years. he got 3 years NCB when he got his own car aslong as he insured with them.

i hate all this - free NCB stuff -makes a mockery of the whole idea, and people who build up their own like i did from when i was 17....

NU's 10-month NCD boost package is another fine example...

Yes,but normally foreign cover on a policy is time limited say 6 weeks a year.Rottweiler I bet in fact your not covered in the UK and as such risk having your car impounded by the boys in blue.
£45 is clearly third party insurance only. What happens if your car is stolen or written off ? The chances of getting say a £10,000 payout is nonsense.
Much insurance in the World is underwritten by Lloyds of London, you get what you pay for regarding risks.
The insurance industry is very competitive in the UK,much more so than say Germany. Many companies in fact make very small returns here. These very high quotes for young drivers we see from well known companies are in fact a way of saying we don't want your business. Check out specialist brokers in these cases.
I've just insured a 735 I BMW for £300 fully comp.Way less than I've paid in other countries when working abroad.
