I think I’d go for a Mondeo ST220. Had one some years ago and wished I’d never sold it.
It was fast, comfortable and a bit of a sleeper as most people thought it was an ordinary Mondeo.
With most early fast Fords going for stupid money, these are bound to follow.

Are they big chunky things that are steel in the middle with rubber outer?
We took it to a garage who knew the car, and they said you needed special tools and it wouldn't be cheap.
They sound like the ones yes, 4 of them, specialist tools, ramp needed and a pig of a job to do.
I got them done for £650 which was cheap!, had one quote of £930 ish and another of £1100!.

I would suggest an early Jap car, that fans have not already cottoned on to, although I've no idea what. Prices of Japanese stuff have rocketed over the past 5 or so years and both sons are now quite happy! :thumb:

Or perhaps a Honda S2000?

Edit: forget them, I've had a look on Autotrader. That particular boat has been missed, unless you fancy a fixer-upper.

I bought my CLK cab because I loved the design but I'll admit that it was with half an eye on the future and perhaps breaking even when it is time to move on.

Cannot believe how values on these cars and so on the floor!

Ok so in these dark pandemic days and the uncertain future of our cause with elvs looking to take over our lives, is it worth investing right now in future classics? If you had £5000 to invest what would you buy?

Plus i scraped 2 metro cabs and a corsa cab last year😱
Bad boy cars

Well I went to look at my neighbours range rover(May he rest in peace) and it needed a bit of suspension work so wasn't what I was looking for unfortunately, still a bargain.
I ended up buying his old Audi A8 2005, 3.0tdi with 75k miles on, a few battle scars but way way below book price.
I wasn't looking to buy these as an investment by the way, bit of rejigging of mine and the Mrs cars.
Hopefully the A8 will be a nice car for us for a good long while without losing money.

The D3 is a lovely car, but some of the engineering decisions are just total and utter insanity. Get yourself a VCDS cable, and get acquainted with which warning codes don't matter (rear footwell heaters inoperative are almost mandatory on any D3) and which ones do.

I just thought of another £5k car that should be a good classic: Saab cabrio. They seem an absolute bargain and surely will go up in value. Nice cars too, and should be low-cost to own. A surprising number of folks in the streets round me have 1980s and 1990s Saabs, all still going strong and parked on the street, no special treatment. Something like a 9-3 V6 turbo cabrio would seem like a good bet.

There a bargain for a reason glorified VAUXHALL, only saab worth anything is the 900 turbo imo

If you choose the right model and colour you should be ok. I’m looking at late 90’s and early 00’s non-turbo models at the moment because I think it’s time we had a modern classic in the family for an everyday car.

The one to look out for though is the 9-3X. Rare but very good.
