£5k investment for the future.

Nothing to do with Covid. Pfizer produces Viagra.
Either way, Pfizer haven't performed well recently. It's certainly not strongly up because of Viagra.
My Pfizer-BioNTech covid vaccine injection had no side effects, while a few people report Oxford AstraZ giving minor side effects on the next day or two.

I’ve been watching for a decent Renault Clio Sport 172 phase 1 for a while. I ordered and owned the second one in the country back in ‘99. Bulldog face models have already started to leap in value. An extremely usable ‘classic’ car to own. £5k possibly.

Which is relevant how? I've had two Pfizer jabs with no side effects, but it's got nothing to do with the subject raised by the OP.

You won’t find the M3 for £5k but a good spec and a good condition E46 won’t lose you any bread.

Escort Mk4 RS2000 is a good bet as well.

Jeep Cherokee XJ is on the up.

4 door Range Rover Classic. (2 door is now stratospheric).

Peugeot 306 GTI-6 because the 205 1.9gti is too expensive.

The trick is to see what is going through the roof and then guess what’s almost as good. For example, air cooled Porsche’s are silly money so what’s the next best thing?? A pukka 996.

I'm not convinced it's a sound plan at this time. Where the markets have been less than appetising due to recent happenings, big money has been poured into vehicles as an alternative investment wagon. Expect a rebalancing on the horizon as the world realises that people got carried away.

It's possible the window for viable up and coming classics is already closing. The complexity of newer cars has effectively made them disposable, all too easy to become uneconomical to repair.

You're right. Buying shares in Pfizer has nothing to do with putting £5k into a car for a few years.
I originally pointed out that Pfizer is a poor financial investment, despite popular interest in Pfizer because of Covid.

I wouldn't bother with Astra Zeneca shares at the moment either. I've held them for 28 years so have a good feel for price trends. They initially did well out of Covid even though they are supposed to be selling vaccine at cost but they are on the way down now since announcing the overpriced purchase of another company.

A really original ginger-cators 986 Boxster has to be heading up in the future. So may have been neglected the nice ones will eventually come up. Nice CLK V6 or V8 cab should go up in the long term. Show me a four door pretty Mercedes cab which hasn’t. They will eventually. But it will be 10-15 years when they become the new 124 cabs of the future.

I think someone already mentioned it but a nice V6 3.0 Busso engined Alfa GTV from the early noughties has to be a future classic too. Prices already in the rise.

I think the boat has been missed for big buck return for minimal outlay.

My vote for appreciation are MK1 Suzuki Swift Sport or any model Mazda MPS. Curve ball choice, Volvo C30 T5 :)

I’ve got one! The V6 is my second one, it’s a year 2000. The Busso really makes it, but the handling is also superb with the passive rear wheel steer multi-link set up. I think they have also aged very well. Certainly well looked after cars with all the “standard“ work done (ie Quaife LSD, powerflex bushes, GTA clutch and single plate lightened flywheel, CDA induction, fruity exhaust etc) are starting to increase in value as lesser examples get more ratty/broken for parts. They were actually surprisingly expensive when new, mine would have been just shy of £30k in 2000.

You’ve got to really want one of these though, to bear the running costs. What would an A124 cabrio have cost to maintain over the last 10 years: £10k? Wiring loom, hood repairs, suspension, rust...

For sure, that’s true. Has always been the way though which is why the number of expensive to maintain cars drops dramatically once they get over ten years old. Many end up being run into the ground leaving the garage queens and fastidious owners to preserve the remaining cars. My CLK costs a fair bit to maintain now. Last invoice was £1,950. Objectively it’s debatable whether I should be spending that on a £6k -£7k car but I want to keep it long term so it is worth it to me. But there won’t be many owners out there lavishing serious cash on cheapish cars. It doesn’t make much sense but a lot of the thought process around owning older cars doesn’t make complete financial sense.

I've got the opportunity to get hold of a very well looked after 2003 Range Rover Vogue with the 4.4ltr BMW petrol engine.
Low miles and hopefully a very low price.
I dont think I'd lose out on it if I only do 2-3000 miles a year in it and look after it.

W124 Estate or Coupe' would be a decent buy I think
