I'd be interested to know a bit more about the tyres he used.

Michelin made 'em specially for him according to the Cycling Weekly. Apparently they were tested at 300kph for 1 hour at 100kg load/tyre. Regular presta valves are visible in some pics of the bike along with cheapnese V brakes by the looks of things!
