Received my insurance renewal from MORE THAN for fully comprehensive cover which was £500.00.

Checked a comparison site and got a quote for £340.00 from The Policy Shop. Excess is also £100.00 less and all other things comparable with MORE THAN.

I called MORE THAN and without even asking what my cheaper quote was, was offered a £40.00 discount, (do they factor this into their quotes as a matter of course?) but was told that no further discount was available.

Shame really, because I do like MORE THAN, but not that much

We had a similar thing with MORE THAN, though they didn't even want to bring their price down.

Most annoying thing was that you are meant to get 2 months free for the 2nd year, though the renewal quote with the 2 months free was still more than their quote for a new policy from the web was!!?!

In the end went with HSBC who were over £100 cheaper and included comprehensive breakdown cover. I only really went with MORE THAN before because I got £75 back in 'Quidco' cashback, which made it the cheapest at the time.

Also when I tried to phone up about if there was anything they could do price wise, they were insisting my renewal quote was the cheapest figure (with the 2 months free included). They couldn't seem to understand that just because they chose to give 2 months Free, the renewal quote was still the higher figure and not the one including the 2 free months!

More Than

I had the same with More Than, I thought i could not get cheaper than them, but lucky for me I checked out some sites. I found Esure were very good all on line and 365 european cover. and some other extrsa.
I would only say they were very very cheap, BUT how good is an Insurance! you will only know when you have to use them!

esure were the best (as of 12/3) for me too.

Morethan wanted £360 and esure £240 for same coverage and excess....

Got there via Aleksandrs' web site - be careful as esure have a strange way of disappearing and coming back to the compare list.

This is normal. It's their computer system who does it.

We have both cars with Direct Line and every year, the renewal quote is ALWAYS higher than a new quote from the Web.

Quick phone call later, finish your current insurance and start with a new one, ie the one you have just had from the Web.

Do the same with Home Insurance (also Direct Line).

Save's us a packet every year! :)

With Directline, it's even easier than that. Just had my house and contents renewal through saying that it would be £870. Checked on the Directline website and even better cover came out at £307! Couple of phone calls later and they are happy to match their own quotes.

They simply rely on people seeing an automatic renewal notice and assuming thats that.

Same thing with my car insurance.

I know check every renewal religiously as the savings are enormous whereas I used to think that for the sake of £20/30, it's not worth all the hassle.

Now, it's no hassle and the savings can be huge.

Me too, but I only found out recently that it destroys your ability to generate earnt NCB as a named driver - to do that it has to be the same policy renewed each year, and starting fresh with a web quote breaks that despite being continuously insured.

What Tim suggests would get around that, but never worked when I've tried...

Just had some fun renewing our R170.

The Norwich Union system was weird. Playing with prices varied over the weekend - at one point I removed the single named driver in the quote and the re-quote went up by 20%!

Play with your mileage as well, that sometimes yields unexpected savings....

For some reason esure would charge me less for insurance if I claimed 6000 miles per year instead of 5000 miles per year

Mileage is a big thing to insurance comapnys .... Not sure if it within the law ?

My best quote by a few hundred was MB insurance.

Offered by far the best Cover too and i get an C class as a courtesy car too.

These threads always concern me. The insurance quote for my car at renewal with Direct Line was £300 cheaper than anywhere else. What am I missing?

Had my renewal quote from MORE THAN yesterday, £390. Checked on a price comparison site and MORE THAN came up as £270!

I will check on this.
