Hi I've just purchased an 03 E55k and it's suffering with intermittent kickdown. It'll kickdown fine and drive exactly how you'd expect then all of a sudden kickdown stops working and it'll only drop one gear. My friend has an 04 and his does it occasionally too, he said it's the throttle pedal but I've searched and can't see much related? Is this a common issue?

do a throttle pedal reset and see if that helps
if I recall this is the procedure - do a search to be sure)
press pedal (keep pressed)
turn car onto stage 2 ignition (but don't start it)
keep pressed for about a minute
release pedal, switch ignition off for a few minutes

then your good to go

this resets the adaptations and makes it feel like its been remapped.... for a few miles anyway until your driving style is relearned.

Thanks Alps! Finger's crossed this works!

Your issue sounds like the intercooler pump may be at fault.

If it's the throttle position sensor (TPS) it will throw up the engine management light on your dash, and it will stay lit. My brother's CLK recently had a fault with his TPS. We cleared the fault and the engine management light came back on as soon as kickdown was engaged again.

We sourced and and fitted another TPS, and have no issues with kickdown now.
