Hello New memeber so please be gentle, Just bought the girlfriend a 3 year old A160 diesel but i'm confused about the serviceing intervals, we'll pick it up in a couple of weeks once we have her reg on retention, So it's 3 years old with one stamp in the book at 10,000 miles( MB dealer stamp ) and we are being told by the garage we are buying it form its not due for another 10,000 miles, The car has only done 14,000 miles and it'll take my girlfriend another 2 years to put another 10,000 miles on it, The MB dealer in Ascot recons it might have missed a service ( although he didn't say it out right )and should be serviced every year on low mileage cars, is this just MB trying to get higher service appointments,If there is a sticky explaining the service schedule please let me know, But i still plan on getting it serviced by an MB dealer just to make sure. it must either have missed a service or if not is due one now. The Assyst system for your car will call for a service after either 10K(ish) miles or a maximum of 18 months if the the car does low mileage. As this is a 3 year old low mileage car, it should have been serviced at 18 months old and be due another one now.

How many months ago was it last serviced?

Edit. MB has switched to annual servicing on more recent cars, but yours is still on the older flexible system.

That would make sence, I'm used to fixed 10,000/12 months servicing, the flexible interval,Unfortunatly not having received the car i don't have the service book, but best to make sure at the MB dealer anyway,

Welcome!

Most would recommend yearly (or so) servicing on low mileage cars of any marque.

If you are buying from a dealer, they should throw in a service as part of the sale!

I guess the garage we are buying from don't think it needs a service yet as the display shows 10,000 miles until the next service, I will get it serviced when we have it, Now that MB has fixed price servicing it might be worth it, plus its the best spec, low mileage, best condition and priced W169 we have seen, plus from a garage, and that includes all the private sellers within a 40 mile radius so for 200 odd quid it might be worth it.

If your car is similar to my Smart car then the car will normally display miles until next service.

But if sufficient time then elapses the display will change when it is 30 days until the next service is recommended.

So, just because your service interval now says 10k miles until next service, it could, for example, be ~40 days away from needing a service.

I think it best just to go a service every 12 months to be safe, I think is worth it as the GF will be driving up and down kerbs that jump out her soon enough.

Even so, if the last service was more than a year ago, there is a good case for the garage to do it.
If you make note of the last service date & the age of car, then ring a MB service centre they should give you the recommended advice re when service due.
It is good that it is a good spec & condition, but this of course gives you no idea of what the engine is like internally
Low miles can often wear engines/exhausts out quicker!

There are quite a few A class owners on here & the A is mechanically very similar to the B class.
Post some pics when you get it! :)
