1 of only 502 - W201 190E 2.5-16 Evo I

I always wonder.... if its that rare, in such pristine condition,,,etc WTF is it on ebay????

Surely there would be people queueing to buy?

It looks like a really nice example and, being one of only 502, it's pretty uncommon but not exactly as rare as rocking horse poo.

Why wouldn't you use ebay? Everybody anywhere in the world can see this listing & be in contact with the seller in a second.

I think ebay is probably fast becoming the best place to sell anything. I've seen 300SL Gullwings, DTM racers, IMSA GTP cars, million ££ houses, islands, Harrier jump jets, rockets, - you name, it you can find it on ebay.

Yes, but a lot of the more exotic items you describe are offered for sale by chancers. Ebay is not the safe and honest place that its founders envisaged.

Same as any other advertising venue or auction house. Caveat emptor.

Coys went down in flames a few years ago taking the proceeds of a big sale with them - no sellers got paid & their cars were gone.

Got to use caution & common sense wherever you go to buy a car.

I know but Ebay bill themselves as the safe place to buy online when they are not.

Anyway, I didn't intent to hijack this thread by discussing the safety or otherwise on online purchasing. I was just making the point that, while highly uncommon, the car is not as rare as "rocking horse poo".

Having said that, from what I can see, it looks very attractive to me though.

Nice always liked them,

but the lhd would put me off, my bus would be quicker in the lanes as I could see to over take :)

watching it though...

It would be an interesting challenge.

I think the 201 would surprise you. Twisty undulating A & B roads are this things metier. Nimble, a perfectly balanced package, one of the best chassis of the last umteeump years - it would go like stink down a country lane.

ME used my 2.3-16 for their May Cosworth special - http://www.mercedesenthusiast.co.uk/cgi-bin/get_issue.cgi?i=0767May .

The photo shoot was in E. Jesus, Norfolk one freezing January day. After hanging around for about 6 hours moving cars around endlessly for the photographer & doing drive by shots we finally finished and headed off home.

Everybody was heading the same way for the first 20 odd miles so we had a swap around & got to drive each others cars down some empty Norfolk lanes. Dan Trent, Editor & Chief Mercedes Enthusiast has a C43 AMG. Jame Mills, who wrote the article & owns the almandine car in the mag, was the only one who wanted to drive the C43. I declined, saying I'd love to try it on the motorwy or a dual carrigeway but thought it would be a bit of a pig on the back roads we were on.

It was. Even though it had oodles more bhp James was surprised how hard he had to drive to keep up with the Cosworths & Evos & TBH we weren't driving anywhere near the limit. Dan Trent used to have a Cosworth, an ME car he wrote off at the Ring IIRC & said, after that little jaunt, he was going to get another one.

the wiper mechanism needs servicing .. it's rest position is too high
