My tired eyes did not deceive me this evening - driving out of Hampstead I saw a Lamborghini Diablo VT on a brand new '10' plate - not manipulated to look like a 10, it was genuinely brand new - spotless brakes, wheelarches etc - looked like it had just driven out of the showroom. looked stunning in yellow and sounded very nice. Lambo stopped building these at least 8 years ago I thought?? Must have sat somewhere unregistered for a loooong time:dk:

possibly a replica as these are built on a spaceframe chassis by a company called Parallel Design in Surrey..

Also many replica companies can register their car as a new car.

Only way to tell is to read what the description is on the road tax.. often either "Lambo" or "Torerro"

I personally doubt it is an original, as no diablos were over built from what i read previously.

replica without a doubt. As for the last comment I thought that any number plate could not make a car appear newer than it really is

The number plate doesn't mean a car is that age ;)

True, but if it was a genuine 10 plate (and not something like S510 XXX) then it almost certainly means the car had not been registered anywhere before 1 March 2010.

DVLA won't allow you to use a plate to make your vehicle appear younger.

ignore someone got there b4 me

Depends what you mean by 'newer'. Provided a car has not been registered previously, it can receive the latest series even if was built years ago. For instance, there are some 07 and possibly even 08 registered MG Rovers out there, even though production was halted in 2005.

What was the reg? Sure you didnt assume it was new style plate as it had a '10' in it?

There was an Opel Kadett GTE for sale recently on something like an 03 reg, it had been a Cypriat registered car IIRC.

I'm sure it's on the special notes part of the V5 that it mentions when it was imported.

Plate read EU10*** :dk:

Car looked brand spanking

That's quite unusual since the introduction of the current-style plates (51-reg onwards), as the DVLA now tend to issue used imports with a non-transferable, age-related plate based on the date the car was first registered, and where than cannot be determined/verfied, will issue a Q-plate. But there are always exceptions to every rule...

A while ago I looked at an '97 Camaro that was registered on an 03 plate. Reason was that it had been imported in 03 and the DVLA accepted that that was the valid date of registration.

Was the Q plate not dumped?

Nope.. Q plates are not transferable and are used, as mentioned, to put a plate on a vehicle on registration where determination of age, import or not (uncludes UK kit cars) is not possible

I know of at least 2 unregistered Diablos in private hands - one guy also has 2 unregistered Countachs.

If one of those had come up for sale it would have been given "10" plates as they are a genuine first registration.

Are they going up in value? They seem like 80s dinosaurs to me nowadays.

You're thinking too short-term.

What would a zero-mile unregistered Bugatti from the 30s go for these days?
