Sorry to start a new thread with this, just need a bit of urgent advice.

I have been to look at an SLK today. It is as follows;

2000 (W) not facelift, 230k, Auto, 44,000 miles, Full Service history (All from MB with only 1 as a specialist - Genuine miles)Linarite Blue, AMG Body Kit, AMG wheels, AMG Chrome exhuat end, Leather interior, Tracker, Alarm, CD player, Cruise control, Airbags, Heated Mirrors, 4 New Pirelli Tyres, long MOT.

It has some wear of the biege plastic coated interior (it doesnt have full leather trim) it has gone a bit black. Sounds a lot worst than it is. A few stones chips but should all polish out.

It is up for £13,200 . I have offered over a £1000 less and he is getting back to me. Can anyone advice please.

Thanks.

The thing I found on my search for a W-Reg SLK was that there wasn't much about. So if you think you've got a good one it might be worth getting it. In the end I extended my search parameter and bought a car that was about 60 miles from where I lived.

The Spec sounds pretty good and below average mileage....However I particularly wanted a facelift model as the exterior pretty much stayed the same until 2004. I've now stuck personal plates on mine so you'd not know if it was a 2001 or 2004 model.

The advice given to me was that from a re-sale perspective silver and black are more popular.....which did prove to be the case when I was buying as there was plenty of Linarite Blue ones but not many silver/black.

Automatic is a bonus, they apparently sell better than the manual SLK's....and my automatic has been great so far.

My leather interior has scuffs and scratches, but I think that's kind of part and parcel with a car that's 4-5 years old.

I think you've offered a fair price for a pre-facelift SLK.

Good luck

How much did you pay for yours?

I haven't seen a W REG SLK that's not a facelift, it must be the very end of production. Does the AMG bodying and WHEELS make this worth more / less or around the same as a facelift W REG - ALL OTHER THINGS EQUAL??

I think facelift is worth the wait .. however, an AMG bodykit means that it doesn't have the black lower bits.

Don't rush: there are plenty of SLKs about, and with Xmas getting closer, sellers will be getting more desperate!

My SLK is a 98 and also has the AMG bodykit. In the colour that I chose (yellow) I think the body coloured lower sides look much better than the standard black. Not sure if it will add much to the used value but the kit was I believe around £3,900 on a new car.

My car is now 7 years old with 51k on the clock and when cleaned comes up like new with NO signs of wear on the interior at all. Seriously, there are no marks on the trim or door panels and the leather is like new.

Check if the car was an import or a UK vehicle may explain why its a non facelift for the year (if they should have been at that time).

Also worth checking if the bodykit was factory fitted, seams a little odd to go to the expenses of fitting the AMG kit but not having leather.

thing that strikes me is 44,000 miles and part history are you sure its not 144,ooo and part history . not that theres anything wrong with that but.. running at 8,800 per year...must be only on its third or fourth service .... check the mots for millage and look at the sevice book find out which one they had done independently, was a big bill looming the previous owner would know a MBFSH would keep it sweet......and dont forget that indi stamp affects your mobil life cover ......check other threads...

My R170 230K is a sep 98 with 26K on it (bought from new), the servicing is done 1 every 2 years.

I bought that very car after much haggling!

It is 44k and it all checks out with MOT slips etc. Infact it was serviced by MB in March 05 (41,000) the guy has only done 3,500 miles since then. He was a 8k a year man (working from home - so no big comutes).

so what did you end up paying?

£12,250... there are a few cheaper ones out there but it was 10/10 condition and was from a genuine private seller.

So many SLK's have been clocked it is unbelievable..

I had the same problem, I used 'Chips Away' who can be found in your yellow pages, did a smashing job of matching the original colour and textured finish:D

This thread is 2 1/2 years old:crazy:

I just sold my v reg one with 22K miles for _considerably less_ and it was beautiful !!
