Hi

Car W124 300te - 1987

At some point the radio wiring harness has ben cut leaving just a pile of wires (no euro connector) or any connector. The wires have been insulated.

Can anybody help me out with what wire does what?

I am thinking that I either need to attach a euro connector or patch in the existing harness from my Kenwood head unit.

What I really need is the colour codes and config.

Also I did hear that there is possibly a cruise control wire in amongs this lot? is that possible. My cruise control is dead.

Many Thanks

Bruce

There will be an earth (brown), a permanent live, an ignition-switched live and probably a feed for an aerial and a feed from the panel lights. You can locate & verify all of these with a multimeter

Out of the remaining wires you can identify your speaker pairs using a 1.5 volt battery and flashing it across the pairs and listening for the clicks. Quite effective without harming the speakers.

Many thanks. The speaker pairs are still labeled up. Does anybody know the connections for a euro connector? Or will the colours magically match?

This might be helpfull. :)

That could be just the job. Many thanks. I will let you know how I get on.
carat, All

This morning, armed with nothing more then a gas soldering iron, heat shrink and your diagram I went in.

30 minutes later I came out again still in one peice with the radio all working and nice new ISO connectors fitted (courtesy of Maplins 8.50). Only thing that was different was it appears in the 300te that the front and rear speakers are joind together into two pairs (I suspect that this may to do with the front to rear fade buton fitted in the center console. So I connected front to front and taped off the spare rear wiring, Everything works fine, including the electric ariel.

Many thanks for the help and the diagrams.

FYI: The maplins ISO connectors have the designation printed on the actual wire which really helps alot. i.e. switched live - permanent live - antenna- earth etc.
