124 Remote Key Fob

Key fobs biggest problem is the tactile press buttons get dry jointed with bad connections,, prise it open with a knife and you can see the PCB

Or post it to me and I can do it for you FOC

One useful thing I found while trying to get the second remote for our W124 up and running, is that if you look at the LED with a digital camera, you can see on the camera's display screen the infra-red flashing when the key is working properly. (i.e., the camera can see the infra red, even though our eyes can't)

I had dry joints on the connections which double as the spring which hold the battery in place. Reflowing them made the key work again.

Thank's for that I tried it on an old one for my other merc first , worked a treat:D

I got the one for the car I've just bought to work, it needed the battery connection redoing as well, but its not unlocking the car, I tried doing a reset as per 124 manual but still no go:confused:

Hi all I've just bought yet another 124!
The problem is that the remote key fob isnt working, and they have goneup to 170quid:eek: mercedes say it has to be on your chassis number,

there must be a cheaper way, has anyone discovered it ?

or tried the ebay ones

I have a 1995 W124 and my key fob doesn't look like the one in the eBay advert. Mine is a standard Scorpion alarm fob with the Mercedes logo screen printed on to it. Apparently the W124 didn't have a factory alarm and they were all Scorpion aftermarket items.

Spare fobs sometimes come up on eBay but they need to be reprogrammed to suit the individual car.

You're lucky guys, I don't have a key fob:confused:

What I have is a Scorpion738/758 alarm with just a key to turn the alarm off on the back of the sounder in the engine bay. I can get a fob for about £30 but need the serial no to get the code but have no idea where it's located and the company that fitted it originally no longer exists.

1989 230CE BTW.

Open the alarm unit up and there will be a white sticker on the circuit board. this is the code. Go direct to scorpion or techtronics in Manchester for a new one.

Scorpion 01257249928
Techtronics 01618726275

It looks like the alarm is mounted under the glove box. Is there a way of accessing that area without dismantling the interior?
