124 steering box leak advice needed, see pics

Hi

I am away abroad working and get the dreaded call " my car is making a funny noise when i turn the steering wheel" I get a pic taken and sent to me to have a look.

So what does the Forum think??

Leaking fluid, pumping air, check level to confirm.

hi brian,you can get new seal and it sounds like an easy job to fit,even i could manage i think all the best

Obviously the box looks a bit wet, but unless it's lost all of it's fluid suddenly it might not be the cause of the noise?

Could be worth checking some of the other bits, eg lower ball joints in case the noise is coming from elsewhere. What sort of noise is it?

What noise is it? is it a bearing type noise? Does it increase in volume with engine revs?
