Hi,

I've just bought a c240 estste (2001) and looked at the performance online and it recons 0-60 should be 9 and a bit seconds.
I thought mine was a bit sluggish so timed it to get a comparison .... (as if you haven't gethered from the title) 13.5 seconds:crazy:
is this the norm or is something wrong??

Cheers.

MAF is possibly on the way out, but then again the V6s in the W202 are made for wafting as opposed to outright drag speeds.

Also the Estates are heavier than the saloons, so are that little bit slower.

Had this engine in an E240 estate which I drove every day. One day my partner drove it and commented on how slow it felt, I hadn't noticed the gradual performance drop off. Few weeks later it began to really lose power.

A new MAF was the answer!

How did you time it.? To obtain the best figure you need to hold it on the brake while revving, then let the brake go leaving a nice number 11 down the road.:D

Hi,

Just replaced the MAF on my 2000 C240. Was driving like a real dog, removed connector on MAF things improved, if a little rough on cold start, so new it was time for a new one.

After a look about I found Emission Controls (www.emissioncontrols.co.uk -
TEL: 020 8462 2543) Emailed them got very quick reply, spoke to a really helpful guy called Paul who talked me through getting part number of existing one so as to get exact match. said i could either get the Pierburg sensor and replace it or get complete unit. I went for complete unit which came to about £139 inc VAT & P&P and was delivered next day. Also after chatting to Paul he said the unit would be genuine Bosch original part which to me seemed really good value when you see so many other makes kicking around on the internet with sometimes dubious reviews.

To cut short I'd recommend him if I need to replace on another car.

The 'official' figures are obtained by a degree of brutality. Realistically, you should get within 10%-20% of them by driving normally.

If it says 9 secs, you should be able to do it in 10.5 to 11.

13.5 sounds rather slow:(

My slk is supposed to be 5.6 to 62. Just full throttle from standstill is around 6.1 secs (in S or M). I've not tried playing with TC or brakes to improve it.

I'll give it a go but I haven't managed to get the wheels to spin at all yet :(

I'll try your method and let you know

(also whats a MAF?)

Sounds like the MAS (Mass Airflow Sensor) again, as soon as I had mine replaced on my C240 it went like a rocketship.

Id say mine would easliy beat the 9secs to 60Mph claimed no problem, and thats with 2x heavy Subs in the boot :D

Remember, these "0-60" times are obtained by hacks who don't own the car and can just hand it back when it breaks. As Colin B says, there is a degree of brutality involved. This usually consists of (in a manual car) holding the revs at about 4000 then simultaneously flooring it and just dumping the clutch. If it breaks then they'll just get another one.

Fixed it!

just been out on a run and got 9.2 secs.

I'm putting it down to the car being driven by miss daisy before, given it a nice thrash cleared it all out, and seems to be much better now.

Cheers for the advice.

Drop it round here, I might be able to get sub 9s for you...
