Sounds good in theory, but without a standard servicing menu how do you know 15% hasn't been added on first?;) Good marketing ploy. Still never look a gift horse in the mouth etc etc.:) might be worth an enquiry?

On the cars which have A & B services the prices seem pretty consistant at around £270 for an A and £480 for a B.

On my C270CDi, Inchcape sent me a postcard with the A for £214 and the B for £315. Although it was a limited time offer, the dealer told me they would honour those prices any time. They also ran an advert in our local paper recently and that had slightly lower prices (£209 / £299). The ad specifically said they would use Castrol SLX fully synth oil.

is the Castrol as good as Mobil 1 ?

The 0w40 castrol meets the MB specs at the highest level. (Edge Sport)

Ridgeway Chichester quoted ~£270 for Service A and ~£430 for Service B.

I took along a copy of the 15% discount flyer. They hadn't heard of it, weren't officially participating, but would give the discount if I took the flyer in when I went for a service.

They're charging £17/l for oil and would be happy should I wish to take in my own MB-compliant supply (and presumably reduce the cost of the service accordingly!)

cheers,
Rich

I've just become the second owner of a W211 E320 CDI MY2004 with 24,000 miles so I'll be following this up to see where I can take up this offer. I want to maintain the FMBSH with all the benefits of Mobilo, enhanced residual value etc., but i know how expensive main dealers can be from when i had my W202 serviced at a one 7 years ago, and with other work needed ended up with a bill of nearly £1000, which I got them to knock down (by 10% IIRC). Thanks Gollom for your OP.:D

Wow! That's the dearest I've ever seen the oil for - my dealer charged £15 (inc VAT) and again they were happy for me to take my own oil, so saving £100. I'm just amazed they'll cheerfully throw away the massive profit that they must make on the oil.

MB Chester ran their ad in the Chester Chronicle again today with E320CDi A service at £199 and B service at £349, plus 10% off any oher work. They also say "up to" 40% off the labour rate for cars 3yrs and older.
I presume they would honour that price at any Inchcape dealer, so that would include Liverpool and Warrington.

If you haven't got any other warranty with your car then have you considered ServicePlus? You might be able to get a couple of years of it.

People tend to cost oil by the price sticker on the 4-5 litre retail containers. Dealers tend to buy it in 55 gallon drums.;)

I'm not good with gallons, what is a 55 (imperial) gallon drum? I buy oil in 200kg barrels, something like 210 litres. The problem is that dealers get their oil directly from a truck these days, barrels are not that common but 4 litre containers are the most popular for the public. Then the barrel isn't that much cheaper any more.

Oil price has gone up a lot lately but I think I paid 7 euros per litre last time, but the oil is not low ash 229.51 and now had to buy some in 4 litre containers, was 12,5 euros per litre! On a US forum someone quoted the Mobil 0W-40 229.51 oil price of $6 (was it 8, I think it was 6) per US quart. I guess that does not include "VAT" like the typical US pricing but still, why do they get everything almost for free?

I'm changing oil myself at home but our service shops do accept oil cans from owners, of course needs to be correct quality. The oil price at the dealer service is easily 1.5 times more expensive than those 4 litre containers at an independent parts shop.
