Hello. I've recently sourced a set of 16 inch 8 holes from a W129 and thought they'd look nice on my W124 300 Diesel.
Any idea idea what the ideal size of the tyre would be? Off a W129 they come with 225 55 16 which would be too big and not the right look on a W124.

On my 124 Saloon on 16" 8 holes I'm running 215 x 55 x16 with no problems. 225s should be OK too.

For similar radius to origonal (195/65/15) using 205/55/16 should give radius of 632mm
Search tyre size calculator for more options

Not sure 129 rims will fit to a 124 which has an unusually high offset of ET49

Check they dont foul anything before you invest in an expensive set of tyres.

When you see the price of 16" tyres you'll be sticking to 15"

The standard r129 tyre size of 225/55 r16 will work, but you'll need to fit the wing spacer kit to prevent rubbing on the sacco panel on the front wings. You could get away with not fitting the spacer though, as the rubbing is only when you go over a heavy bumps.

As per Nick's post, the tyre price difference between 15s and 16s is shocking.

Thanks all. The current tyres are in good condition and Ive been promised a swap to a different size.

I'd rather not install a spacer kit, just a smaller tyre so I have no issues.

The car currently has rims and the wheel covers which are nice but no match for the 8 hole alloy.

W140 uses larger wheel bolts (M14 versus M12) and a very different ET (51? versus 34).
I don't understand how the R129 8 holes can look right on a w124*... i'm running 17x7.5 et35 on mine which are the w202 size AMG II (w124 should be et42 in that width). The top of the front arch just covers them and they would look better sitting a bit further in (rears are fine, plenty of room for wider like 8.5" et30), about 1/4" would be spot on which is where the et42 version would be...
Suspension on mine is the standard sportline set up and they rub occasionally with 225/45r17 unless the wing spacers mentioned are used to push the lower edges of the wheelarch out- the official MB take is/was to limit compression travel too with an additional bumpstop. The R129 wheels will sit out a further 1/4" approx as they're 1/2" wider

There are 16" 8 holes/Alamak (from a w210?) that fit properly, 16 x 7" et41 IIRC.

* unless it's a 500e which is very different and used 16x8 et34 as standard
