I have been told that if I change my 17” tyres to 19” it will be the biggest mistake I make and They will crack and wear easily is this correct I currently have 225/50 r17 all round. Really appreciate any help

19" alloys, especially Mercedes OEM alloys are prone to cracking on our rubbish roads. You'll have thinner walls on the tyres too which make for a pretty hard ride after 17's

IMO, I would swap to 18" maximum on a C class and ensure you get the right offset wheels to fit a C Class and the correct tyre dimensions.

Take a look at the C Class wheels in the link below for your car where you can find the correct offsets (ET's) along with the recommended tyre sizes.

19s no problem as long you get the correct width, offset, and tyres, go on Wheelbase alloys, site, put your car in and it will tell you exactly what you need to fit your car. :)

What do you want to achieve?
If you can exploit the better cornering potential and are prepared to tolerate the vulnerability - go for it.

I’ve put my car in and it comes up with what Mercedes recommend which is 17”. This is what confuses me is you’ve got people like yourself no worries go ahead and mates who have said 19” no problem but then garages saying it will be money thrown away. I’m trying to achieve a better look to the car because I think the bigger wheel looks nicer than the 17” looks more meaty! I feel every bump with the 17” it’s not the smoothest of rides to be fair anyway.

Thanks mate great website that I’ve got a set of wheels and tyres in the basket but I’m still unsure of what size to go with 18” or 19”.

Bigger wheels are all about looks and mistakenly get misdescribed as an 'upgrade' , where really there are several dynamic physics penalties .

Dean, I've looked at 4 different websites, Wheelbase, Rimstyle, rtec and TSW.
And they all say 19s or 20s fit your car.. I've configured 4 w205s, albeit saloons to give you an idea.

Nice, you got there in the end

That you have slowed your vehicle down .

Where, in your (or anyone else's) opinion is the sweet spot re profile that delivers cornering power but without ruining the ride and making the wheels vulnerable to damage?
Should we all be running on 65% profiles? Would we miss any cornering advantage if we did?

17 and 18" .

The old boys Hyundai had 225 45 18 , he's developed a penchant for kerb bashing , now the 8J width alloy with isn't helping so some 245 40 18 went on , a common Audi size .
