Hello all
i am hoping for some help with tyre sizes, i recently bought an E240 ********** with 17'' amg wheels fitted, the rear tyre sizes are 235/45/17 and the front sizes are 225/45/17, im wondering if i can fit new 235/45/17 tyres to the front so they match the rear, the reason i ask is i have been told it is not possible to have front and rear tyres the same size on a set of amg wheels, i must admit i found this very strange and i thought i better investigate before i commit to new tyres for the front, i would appriciate any help and i thank you in advance (cheers)

erm, I think the tyre are thinner because the wheels are thinner - I have the AMG wheels on my C class and they are wider at the rear.

I don't think you can fit the wider rear tyres to the thinner front wheels as they would just fall off ;)

Are they genuine AMG I wonder?

Whether they are or aren't you need to establish, preferbaly by removing a front and rear and confirming the markings if they are "staggered". That is the rear rim is wider than the front.

There are two scenarios I can think of:

1. They are stagged and someone has not fitted the correct 245 rear tyre which is what you should have. In this case I would fit the correct rear size and keep the 225 fronts.

2. They are not staggered wheels and someone has botched upsizing the rear tyre to a 235 as if they were. If this is the case I think I've be tempted to fit the 225 tyre to all.

Staggered amg on mine and the wifes cars.

I have seena few sets of amg wheels on e bay with 4 same size wheels and 4 same size tyres.

How does one tell genuine AMGs? Mine are 17" and have the name indented on the radii of each.

I think AMG on the outside means oe but you could always get the part number from inside the rim and google it.

Lynall, Where exactly inside the rim should I look without removing the wheel off?
Thanks,

Hi,
As Lynall I always believed that only original AMG rims had the "AMG" embossed, and as a general rule of thumb I would still say so, but this style of rim I would be very wary of as these in the link below is being sold as fakes but do have AMG on the rim.
18" mercedes amg style alloy wheels brand new in box on eBay, also, Wheels with Tyres, Car Wheels, Tyres Trims, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 21-Jun-09 10:56:25 BST)

As suggested look a the inside of one of the spokes this should give a pt. no. do one front wheel and one rear wheel should a 10 digit number, post it on here and i,m sure someone will verify the pt. no. for you.
