Various.
Lots of canary squeaky noises coming from my V belt. Previous owner handled this with WD40.

Does anyone know how to remove the old belt? I can't see where you slacken anything to relieve the tension.

Is it necessary to remove the fan?

TIA.

grober,

Thanks for that - exactly what I need.

Naturally I don't have any of the specialist tools. Can the job be done without them, or, can it be done without removing the fan & shroud?

Any idea?

It is doable without removing the fan or shroud. No special tools are needed. Just a 13mm socket, a 17mm socket. Should take you about 10 mins.

Unless you snap or pull off the tensioner bolt thingy off the assembly like I did....

Then its a PIA of a job (my job for tomorrow in the dark) My belt is currently held tight with a cargo strap round the pully assembly tensined to the bulkhead...

Well I had to move the car back to its parking spot somehow

All done.

Pretty straightforward even though the bearing on the tensioner pulley was completely fecked. Luckily, I have a spares W201 which is the same year, model etc & it came to the rescue yet again with free parts. Suspected there was more to this noise than a worn belt.

So much more pleasant to drive now.

Thanks to everyone.

Next problem is to get the ABS light to go out. Checked OVP & changed relays in ABS box to no avail.
