Hi all,

The "anti jerk" system isnt working on my old merc! if i try and pull away in low revs the car drives like a kangaroo!! - How does this system work? is it to do with the vacuum? Because recently my brakes have been very hard first thing after starting and the car wont turn off by the key unless I have driven it for more than 15 mins and its hot!

Any ideas where to start looking

Cheers!

Matt

Dont know much about diesels but there are 2 things to check. One is the action/adjustment of the kickdown cable to the gearbox and the other is the vacuum line connection to the box. thats just my guess??????????
edit:- just noticed you have a manual box So forget what I just said!!!

There is a damper bolt in the governor end of the IP. I cant remember if there is a vacuum diapragm as well, but that will be for fast idle iirc.
I'll look it up.

I think there is something wrong with the vacuum system - so i guess they could be linked? This is driving me mad!!

**Im considering buying a whole 2.0d car with a siezed engine then dropping my 2.5 into it - is this easy done?**

Seems a bit drastic. I would try to repair the existing car if possible. The 2.5 5 cylinder engine is longer and may have a different front slam panel/radiator assembly from the 2.0 litre. No doubt it would go in but not maybe a straight swop.

Maybe seems a bit drastic but my old girl is suffering from rusty arches now :-( - unless maybe I should change all the bodypanels.

Engine not turning off

Engine not turning off is a vacuum problem. Probably a pipe has come adrift at a T-piece or join. Anti jerk system is more than likely related

Central locking, headlamp aim & engine turn-off are all vacuum operated
