Various.
I've bought a really lovely 2 owner (last guy for 17 years) Astral Silver / full black leather 190E 2.5-16 with 106K which has a creaking OS rear Self Leveling Suspension strut. The bush is the culprit. I also think I've heard the NS complain once or twice, but I may be imagining that. The OS needs immediate attention.

There is nothing wrong with the shock itself, just with the bush, but you cannot buy just the bush from MB. The dealer wants £315 per side for a new shock & I'm trying to figure out if there's a cheaper & less wasteful remedy.

Does anyone know:

1) Of a suspension specialist who can replace the bush?

2) Are these shocks, part # A2013201613, found on any other Merc?

3) Could I find a leaky worn out SLS shock with a good bush & transfer the bush to my shock?

4) If anyone has one or a pair of these things taking up space in their garage please get in touch.

All ears for any other ideas.

TIA.

I tried Powerflex.

Maybe it was just bad luck but the bloke I spoke to was very indifferent & said they couldn't help. He didn't know what a Mercedes Cosworth was.

How about making a bush from poly? Do it both sides to balance out the ride.

But something from the universal range might fit.

I think I've got a spare Neil.

I'll PM you later on.

P.S - the reason the bushes tend to fail is when the accumulators are/have been knackered for some time - letting the the struts acting as hydraulic rams and thumping the life out of the lower bushes!

When I bought my 2.5-16, there was a creaking noise coming from the SLS. The previous owner told me the car had been sitting unused for a while and the noise would go away with a bit of driving. It did and it may well be the same with yours.

How much driving did you have to do to clear the noise?

Are you certain its the lower bush on the SLS strut and not one of the multi links?

I recently bought a Sach Boge strut from euro car parts for around £165 Thats the very same unit you would get from the dealers but for half the price.

I had the car examined on the hoist at the local MB indy.

The rod from the torsion bar to the spring control arm was broken so he replaced that, dropping the control arm, removing the spring, disconnecting the bottom of the shock & having a pretty good look around.

The bush itself was rusty inside. He squirted some liquid grease into it but it did nothing to stop the creaking & moaning.

If I can't find a good used shock the plan at the moment is to remove the shock & see if I can find a local auto or engineering shop which can press in a new bush.

Will, did you discover if you have a spare SLS shock?

I don't know about the Anglia Auctions one.

This is one fairly local to me I dug out from snippets of info I'd picked up over the past few months.
