E CLASS CONVERTABLE + B CLASS,
Hi Folk
Considering a 190e (1990) advert says needs Distributor but obviously it must be hard to get otherwise whoever selling would just drop one in and sell as runner, Just wondering what could be wrong with it any ideas. If its just worn is it possible to put a bush in it?

The distributors themselves don’t give much trouble. Very early models used simplex chains which could wear out timing components including some of the bits related to the distributor drive but not on a 1990 (duplex) car.

I suspect it needs a new cap and rotor arm, possibly leads. Occasionally the steel mounting screws for the caps get seized into the alloy distributor housing (and snap) but it’s a simple job to rectify.

Any of these sorts of parts, or any other ignition related bits (EZL etc) should be easily and cheaply available secondhand. Perhaps the seller doesn’t have the time or inclination to sort out?

See if it turns over and sounds otherwise okay, look for signs of HG failure (check the oil and coolant) aside from that not a great deal to worry about engine wise IMHO.

May be it is the fuel distributor that said seller was talking about .In this , it will make this purchase of a fuel distributor a lot more expensive than just the ht distributor.

Needs a distributor = non runner-------avoid unless they are only asking a "breaking for spares" price. Why--- because of all the other things you can't adequately test

Yes this is true as the distributor is laid on top of engine so know knowing what else could be wrong they are looking for £950 for it.

Thanks Guys been doing some digging on MOT history (reg G915 KBO) its suffering from rust and looking is 2017 it probably had some serious welding done with some failed items moving to advisors so think there's more to this than is being mentioned, it also looks to be at some kind of garage as the seller is/has listed other cars and from where there parked it looks to be on field. Think I give this a Miss.

Mercedes 190E | eBay

Has all the hallmarks of a car that has been parked-up for some time in the open judging by the corrosion on all the alloy components.
The 2 advisories
  • Nearside Rear Suspension spring mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive (2.4.A.3)
  • Offside Rear Suspension spring mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive (2.4.A.3)
Might point to a common MOT corrosion failure point where the rear subframe is mounted to the body by its front mountings. USUALLY means a rear subframe off job and new subframe mounts--- and while the subframe is off you may as well do the corroded rear brake pipes and there's £750-1000 easy enough for starters unless you are a very experienced DIY Man with welding kit.
And where's the air cleaner assembly gone.

Wise decision :thumb:

As the saying goes, there's nothing quite so expensive as a cheap Mercedes.
