190e Evo Ii

That's been up for sale for a VERY long time at that price.

The chap is rather local to me, and he supplied an Evo 2 for a Mercedes Enthusiast feature. It was the one where they tested 2.3-16 vs 2.5-16 vs Evolution vs Evo 2, and the photo locations where around North Norfolk (close to where MCP Motorsport is based).

Martin Pearce is his name, and a reliable friend of mine knows him, claiming he's a very decent fellow.

And if I had the moolah, I'd snap up that Evo 2, quick as anything! :D

I know it's somethinmg special but sorry it looks 'Barry' to me :o just couldn't take it seriously...

That was the one I was thinking of. Thanks :)
The article does mention North Norfolk, IIRC.

Just for the record, that front page photo appears to be either Cley-next-the-Sea or Salthouse on the coast. I could be wrong, but it looks awfully like either of those car parks - plus both are within 15 minutes drive of MCP Motorsport's base (Sheringham).

No-one probably cares, but I may as well share the info anyway :D

I have to agree it does look a bit Barry, but at least the spoilers are active, and the racing pedigree is USP, I guess - so it would only attract collectors/enthusiasts who are "in the know". At least that would be my argument :o :D

I was there. My car is the 2.3-16 behind the two Evos.

TBH I forget the name of the beach. I do remember the shoot was done at the end of Jan '07 on a freezing day (drove through snow for it) & the beach, while looking all sunny & delightful, had a wind blowing onto it straight from Siberia that would take the paint off gates.

It took hours, literally the whole day, & involved a great deal of standing around in a pee stinky shelter, waiting. Martin regaled us with tale after tale after tale after tale after tale after tale after tale of his exploits in the car world.

ME paid my petrol, bought us a pub lunch & gave me four (4) free copies of the 16 valve edition.

The best bit was when it was all over & we drove in a high-ish speed convoy through the a r s e end of Norfolk for about 30 miles swapping cars every 5 miles or so. Dan Trent, then ME editor, had a C430 or something like that & it was hard pressed to keep up. Much more power but lacking the brilliance of the 16 valve's perfectly balanced chassis.

The Evo II looks fantastic in the metal & was decades ahead of it's time in terms of styling IMHO. Bear in mind this was a very limited production run (502 made) & made road legal so they could race it. It's designed for the track & everything on it is for go, not for show. You can see the wheel arch treatment on every hatchback now made & the spoiler is only slightly more outre than most adorning Subarus.

One might not consider the Evo's rare, i mean 502 is a big number when compared to the quantums of the Hammer (13) and say Gemballa SECs (4).

However, this Evo is indeed ultra rare as it's a factory MB limited run....not an aftermarket after-thought like the Hammers and Gemballas. For MB to do a limited run of only 500 is ultra rare.

I think that fact is what gives it some real value, added to the fact it's a superb car !
